Does VoLTE count against data use?

Specifically on ATT.

Work transitioned from blackberries to iPhone 6 (not s), and sound to other iPhones sounds great. I think it has to do with using LTE for voice.

Work somehow uses vast pools of data and minutes for users, and I use tethered data a lot already. I reading that VoLTE is like 12kbps. I often do long telecons, so this could turn into a decent amount of use. I haven't called ATT yet, but I've not been able to find much info.

So does VoLTE use data against your data amount, or is it a freebie that still counts against minutes?

My wife is running an iPhone 6s Plus and she is using more data than her phone suggests, so I'm also interested from this angle.

VoLTE (voice and not video) uses your minutes not data. Video uses data.

There was an issue with IOS updates using more data. Check the following:
-Launch the Settings app and tap Mobile Data/Cellular
-Scroll down to the bottom of the page and disable Wi-Fi Assist

Since HD calling utilizes the data network, you might assume that your HD voice minutes affect your data allotment. Fortunately, that's not the case. The networks are smart enough to identify voice packets, and they don't lump them into your data usage.

That sounds like it counts as minutes, not data.

Your VoLTE (HD-Voice) calls are VoIP (data), but will NOT be charged against your data usage.

Verizon nope. They actually have no data for charging that data because it's a far more efficient method of having voice calls. The new Verizon towers showing up lack the older cell support including the one near me.

The quality approaches xfinity voice which I will drop once my wife gets rid of her iPhone 5 which does not work at home for voice. LTE yes but voice is useless...

Nope modern cell calls and carriers basically use voice over LTE (VoLTE) and its superior quality. Also more efficient the old school stuff over less infrastructure.

The iPhone 5 uses the data connection for voice, doesn't it?

I know it's not really the same thing, but you can talk and surf the web on an iphone 5 if you're on wifi, I use to do it all the time with verizon. Now I have a galaxy s6 which has advanced calling which is nice.. But.. In order to reliably connect to my network extender when I'm home, I have to have advanced calling turned off. Bummer.
