Does unopened brake fluid thicken after a while?

So I topped off the brake fluid with DOT 3 Prestone after a recent brake job. Perhaps the bottle had been sitting on the store shelf for some time because the fluid was a little more viscous than I'm used to with brake fluid. Color was slightly golden like regular BF is. The bottle was new and sealed. Just wondering if this is something unique to Prestone.

I use several years old unopened brake fluid bottle without problem, it had the same thickness as newer bottle.

Nope, bought it from the store that day.

Its fine, viscosity can be hard to measure visulaly

I have never seen it nor should it happen.

but there's regular and low viscosity brake fluid, I believe. the low viscosity for ESP equipped cars.
