So I understand the whole manufacture's warranty pitch. But putting that aside I'd like to ask if the specific spec of the oil really matters? I can't really imagine manufacturers reinventing the wheel when it comes to producing a vehicle. For instance I have a land rover discovery diesel. It's the same engine in the F150. Land Rover has their own spec but is it really any different or just a stamp that says this oil meets a certain requirement which so many others would? For instance there's no amsoil for my engine but it's always held in high regard. Did the manufacturer just make a spec that's impossible to find or would most full synthetic oils be perfectly fine? I'm just wondering how much is a sales pitch. I find it hard to believe that the best oils out there for my engine are a bunch of no names.
