Does oil spec really matter?

Many oils might do, but a manufacturers testing/approval is their assurance the oil is suitable, taking the guess work out for the average consumer.

And cost for that could be high...if you need to rebuilt 8 injectors

Your Leon actually needs much more sophisticated oil than Dexos1 or SN+.

Just one example, with many different engines, but is Ford going to back-spec their oil requirement on all of the Ecoboost engines ? Even if they did, this isn't something that they ever communicate to vehicle owners.
