OK got my oil stash set up but I noticed the dates on the bottles are 12/14/14. So the oil is a year old. Does it go bad or does the additives break down in the bottle. There is no use by date so can I keep it stored for another year or 2? Just curious to what everyone thinks

I've heard that it should be good for up to 5 years....so you should be good.

Prior to using, be sure to shake the containers up thoroughly, as some of the additives have a tendency to settle at the bottom.

There are good UOA's on here from oil sitting in crank cases for 3-4 years....maybe some longer. An unused/sealed bottle not exposed to any contaminants should last a lot longer. I recall a thread or two where some owners have the same oil in their back yard lot vehicles for 10-20 yrs and those are still chugging.

oil DOESNT go bad....Our shop has 100 cases of Mobil 1 (SG) left over from the Indy Car program we did here in the late 1980's. We still use it today in anything, everything that needs oil. NO issues, dont forsee any.. So, No, oil doesnt go bad..

I still have a little Maxlife from when the movie "Cars" was coming out. They did a promotional tie-in.

I do have three Qts M1 0W-40 from '10 that I'll toss in my '07 Merc at it's spring change... From here forward It's buy as needed...

The oil doesn't go bad but additives settle out in 4-5 years pretty aggressively. Just get it warm in the sun or inside and shake it vigorously. I wouldn't be really worried about less than 2 year old oil but I'd still give it a little shake.

Yes it does go gad. Please send it to me and I will dispose of it properly.

The additives don't settle out either.
