Does Castrol Edge 10W30 contain sodium?

The general trend seems to be towards low ash add packs, to protect the exhaust system. Less metal adds and more organic adds, in some respects Valvoline is leading the pack.

People don't like it because it doesn't produce a impressive VOA from BlackStone, but these simple VOA's miss all the organic adds. They only see traditional metal adds.

VR-1 is a well respected racing oil, the go-to oil for many people with lots of experience. Then other people question how SynPower or Valvoline conventional is put together and has no moly, doesn't make sense to me. I trust Valvoline to get the job their way. Others get the job done a different way.

Moly isn't the be all or end all additive as I like boron in Quaker State Conventional and Motorcraft and Kendall oils


From where I'm sitting they use it in place of Boron, not moly...
 
As a custom engine re-builder here, 66 years in business where I work: I have seen alot of engines thru here, I try to find out the history of every job thru the shop, ie: why is it here? blown headgasket,hose failure.etc... I ask miles etc, when I notice a high mileage engine (250,000 miles and up) that is extra clean,and no bearing wear,I make a point to ask what oil the customer had used? Many many cases they reply "Valvoline" and "Valvoline synpower" I know you guys hate the high sodium content,but I must admit it does have good results out in the field.The principle purpose of "salt" additives in engine oils is for a "detergent" action...think of it like grains of sand sloshing about and "scrubbing" surfaces and "preventing" carbon detritus deposits from caking up.
