Does Auto RX actually work?

yes

Typically high silicon, higher insoluables, and a little bit higher levels of metal. However, you don't know if it's wear or things that were cleaned and now suspended in the oil.

Either I'm seeing things, or the ARX is already working. I drove 300 miles yesterday after I changed my oil and filter and added ARX. I used a full tank of gas and normally the engine would've used 1/2 quart of oil. It didn't use any. Is it possible for this stuff to start working this soon?

On one out of the three vehicles I used it on, there was a major improvement in how it ran in under 300 miles. My conjecture (which is worth not much more than you are paying me for it) is that it freed up the piston rings.

You case sounds more extreme, but people get exptremely varied results with ARx. My range of results has run from no noticeable change on two vehicles to the bleeping miracle on one vehicle that I mentioned.

I noticed yesterday the puff of blue smoke is still there during cold starts and I checked the oil level and it does appear to be dropping somewhat. Aparently the ARX isn't working yet, but I still can't explain why the engine didn't use any oil during the first 300 miles after I added it and now it's using oil again. That doesn't make any sense.

One of the things I'm noticing about ARX treatments (I'm in the process with three of my vehicles right now) is that all sorts of things stop and start and stop and start again during the treatment. Leaks stop for awhile, then start again (although much smaller than before the treatment) then eventually stop altogether, check engine lights (CEL's) go on and off, the engines run smoother-rougher-smoother and so forth. Even operating temps change! So, it isn't surprising that oil usage varies during the treatment, too.

I KNOW that a lot is going on with ARX in the sump, and years of crud are being liquified and removed... this apparently affects a lot of things while the process is ongoing.

The payoff is that once all of the cleaning and rinse phases are done, everything should be a LOT better than it was before - at least as good as it can get from a total and complete internal engine cleaning.

Obviously, ARX can't fix excessive wear or other purely mechanical problems, but like the ARMY ad says, it helps your engine, trans and diff to "be the best they can be."

I'm using the ARX to find out if my engine is using oil due to wear or because of sludge build-up or seals that need reconditioning. If it's not due to wear, may the ARX will cure the problem and allow me to drive this car for another 100K miles. That's obviously best case scenario and it could very well turn out to be engine wear.

Well, I'm about 300 miles away from dumping my first treatment of ARX and I haven't noticed a difference at all. My engine is still using as much oil as it was before I started the treatment. Either this stuff doesn't work, or my engine has mechanical wear that can't cured by ARX because I should've started seeing a change by now if it was going to work.

If you are still in the cleaning phase, than don't worry about it because most of the actual changes according to most people on this board happen during the rinse phase of the application. If you are in the rinse phase, then maybe it is something arx just can't fix.

And, if your engine has over 100,000 miles on it, you may not notice tangible improvements until the second rinse phase (with over 100,000 miles you are supposed to run through the ARX regimen twice).

I recall reading about a Honda with a major oil burning problem which wasn't resolved until midway through the second phase rinse cycle. That engine had lots of buildup on the ring pack.

I'm about ready to dump the oil from my engine which had the first application of ARX in it. Since my engine has over 100K miles, I'll be adding a second application this weekend when I change my oil and filter.

Maybe I am misreading your posts, but you need to run a 2000 mile rinse cycle with Conventional oil after running the 1500 mile clean cycle with Auto-RX in it.

If you are running a two cycle process for sludge/burning/seal leak or other consumption issue, you then run the second cycle AFTER the intial clean AND rinse.

You're absolutely right. I misquoted what I will be doing next which is draining my initial clean and do the 2000 mile rinse phase.

Having completed my first application of ARX and my first rinse cycle, I'm now in my second ARX application phase (my car has over 100K miles). With the exception of a short period of time during my firt application phase, I haven't seen a reduction in consumption. I'm not as optumistic now as I was in the beginning that ARX is going to get rid of my consumption problem. Most of the testimonials I've read by people who have seen results saw at least SOME results by this point of the process. I do plan to complete the entire process in accordance with the instructions, but I'm not holding my breath.

Your not going to see any dramatic reactions until you complete the full Auto-Rx application. Your engine is dirty and it burns oil and has over 100,000 miles why would you think "you' should see improvement in your "Heavy Oil Burning"Problem? with one bottle and a rinse. Please revisit the application for Heavy Oil Burning/Sludge Issues and you need to follow that application and not one for just a durty engine. Please post when your finished with the total application.

Are you tracking your gas mileage?

Did you take compression readings before/after/during?

Consumption can be caused by lots of issues other than dirty ring packs/valve seals.

When was the last time you changed your PCV valve? Is your transmission a manual or automatic? Manuals typically consume more oil.

On my crown vic consumption went UP before it went down. Most likely some of the crude was going into the combustion chamber instead of the other direction like I wanted it to.

Besides, think of it this way, you're trying to undo 100k miles of getting dirty with 6500 miles of cleaning. Have some patience. Maybe your engine is REALLY bad and might need a 3rd treatment.

Bottgers,

I can assure you if you follow Franks, instructions Auto-Rx will work.I am a long time user of Auto-Rx and I have always been 100 percent satisfied.
