Then, as stated before, dont buy it. Look for something else, and save your friendship. Even if you wont be mad, it will put your buddy in an awkward position and one way or the other trust will be lost.

Yea I like the truck and I don't want him to be upset of if i dont buy it but if I buy it and it does end up going out that wont be good either. And if I bought another truck. Ford Chevy or Dodge from the 90s they all have [censored] transmissions.

I remember my 88 LeBaron used to do some weird stuff but it never actually broke down.. (The transmission)

Do you have a picture of the truck[RAM]? Sounds to me that the truck is in really nice condition and maybe worth it.

Also, yes change the transmission filter as these filters are very efficient at trapping debris and can plug easily IMHO, because they're not just a screen as in many other auto transmissions. It actually holds lots of dirt with little dirt passing through it. And when they plug, the transmission won't shift properly.

Here is the process to replace the governor solenoid on a 46RE transmission. Your truck is a 97, so it probably has the 46RH transmission, i don't know how different they are but this will get you close. Looks like it is inside the pan area.

I couldn't find anything on the transduce part.

To help you make an intelligent decision we would need to know the mileage and price the truck is being offered for. You could also have you or him do the services I discussed and add it to the price if it helps. If it does not solve the problem then deduct half the price of a rebuilt or used transmission installed and you take your chances. That way is fair for both. The parts I suggested with a mopar fluid change is not horribly expensive and easily done by anyone with even modest mechanical skills.
Its a pan drop with a few bolts and connectors .

The truck has 186k miles and the cost is 1800 . It had a recall on the valve body and that was done by Chrysler

It's either a 46 or 42 RH. Those are the only two listed for that year.

If it's got a V8, it's a 46. The 42 was only with the 6 cylinder.

I'd make darn sure I knew exactly what was wrong with it and the cost of the repair. If not I'd figure the worst case, a complete unit with a TC into my price negotiations. Transmission repairs can be very costly, and I wouldn't be the guy footing the bill for it.

I had a similar problem with my '01 Dakota, 42RLE transmission. Turned out it was the throttle valve cable end at the shift shaft on the transmission that needed to be lubricated. It would hang in 1st gear until I stopped and worked through the PRNDL range. A little silicone at on the switch with each LOF took care of it.

I went to a local transmission shop and the guy told me the cause of it skipping when cold is probably because of hard seals or could be the check valve.
