In the USA, the EPA requires newer vehicles to use EPA certified kits but this is more of an issue for commercially installed conversions. Once converted, the only issue for vehicles owners is passing smog tests. Many states do not have smog testing and often, for the ones that do, a simple OBDII scan is all that is required. Generally, properly configured injection conversions do not generate CEL codes and will easily pass smog inspections.
There are a variety of Propane Conversions available and all must be programmed to properly run on propane. When the short & long term fuel trims on propane are the same as those on gasoline at all times, the system is properly configured.
