Dodge Intrepid- Blower Motor Resistor Failing

This is my second blower motor resistor from Rock Auto. My Intrepid seems to be going through them like crazy. It defaults back to just high fan setting. Does anyone know what else I can look at or is it possible I keep getting bad resistors. Please Help!
 
Fan is probably shot, it draws high current(shorted windings, will stil loperate) as they age, frying your resistors. Your lucky your switches and or connectors havent melted.

Buy a new fan, been there and done that on some older cars.
 
I think VNTS advice above is a good starting point with the blower.

I will also say this, some cars just have p!ss poor designed fan blower systems from the get go. Many Chevy Cavaliers back in the day went through blower motor resistors like candy. Replacing blower motors did nothing for stopping resistors from taking a dump. Was finally determined that the design of the blower motor resistor circuit legs were too thin to handle the current draw. Took a aftermarket redesigned resistor assembly with thicker circuit solder runs to fix the issue. Of course most were way out of warranty and nothing GM would admit to.

Some blower motors are ridiculously easy to replace and some are ridiculously difficult, there doesn’t seem to be many in the middle. It all depends on the design and the placement.

You have a 2.7 sludge monster. I thought they were all gone.
 
There should be a spec for the blower motor current draw in the Factory Service Manual. If you've got an ammeter and a manual (check online), then I'd measure the actal current draw first. If the draw is close to spec, then I'd try a parts-store (high-end like NAPA or Carquest) or dealer part. RockAuto is great, but sometimes you get some pretty cruddy parts unless you specify a more expensive option.

My recollection is that anything to do with HVAC on the LH series cars was pretty complex. I know the heater core was a PITA, don't remember specifically about the blower.

I see many Treps on the road. Possibly with rebuilt engines but there out there( 2.7 se). Did the water pump on this car, top half of engine is very clean. I was told is exclusively ran Pennzoil and Pennzoil Gold in it last 75,000 miles. I admit 2.7 is high maintenance, but many people were going 7500 miles on oil changes back in the day when driving in severe duty conditions and that isn't the car to do it on. Cheap car, good shape, just a 2nd work car.
 
The question is...is it easier to replace the resistor or the blower fan. I replaced a resister on my wife's Stratus and found that Mopar redesigned it (made it bigger). Maybe you need to go OEM?

Mine was standard motor products part. Very cheap looking. Perhaps you are exactly right. It's a tough guess now. What to do, LOL! I'm going to the junk yard, we can cherry pick cars there, see if they have a resistor left in a car, 10 minute job to change or take off, i'm a pro at it now. As for blower motor, I can experiment on a junked car. If I can take it off I can put it on, probably get it for 10 dollars. I'm on the low cost option. Since I just put new struts all the way around, exhaust system from resonator back. New water pump. Both parts Motor or resistor are basically same price within a 5 dollars here or there.
