Just an observation from being in the market for a SUV in this league
Talking a mid line Durango it seems overpriced compared to the top contenders
Your average street price regardless of AWD or RWD seems about $5K too much to be ultra competitive.
And I'm talking about the V6 and not the Hemi.

Nothing against the vehicle but I think FCA is missing the boat here.
Thoughts?

FCA gives away minivans these days.

FCA = Junk.

Have never and will never buy anything made by them.

If I were in the market for an SUV of that size, I'd be far more inclined to look at the Pilot or CX-9 or Tahoe or Traverse or Yukon or Sante Fe or pretty much anything but the Durango.

And if I was looking for a mini-van (

) I would look no further than the Odyssey.

Each to his own. My 18 JL has been perfect, and my JK is going strong after 11 years and 126k miles. My dealership, their service, and support of a lifetime powertrain warranty on the JK has been outstanding.

It seems no one is buying the Dodge Durango where I live. Consumers Reports does say it is very comfortable, quiet and rides well, better than most in the segment and it has a good performing automatic transmission. The 18" wheels ride better than the 20" ones. For those who aren't worry worts it might be a very good vehicle. I would never own one, but I wont look down on someone who does.

I usually don't go there but the Pilot has issues. The CX-9 has had many teething issues past and present.
GM hasn't been stellar lately and the Odyssey tanked with Consumer reports which has always been a Honda fanboy.
Look it all up. Times are a changing....I

I agree. Partly due to cost and the bad rep FCA gets.
Honda seems to be blowing it big time lately.

LOL! Dude, my Jeep could run the 1/4 with your junk on a trailer behind it faster than either of them would run it with a tailwind in mineshaft air. I guarantee it is better appointed too.

Calling somebody else's brand choice "junk" is an invitation for this to go south, fast.

There are a ton of them up here, likely due to them being a very popular choice for rental fleets and Corporate dailies that then get sold for a song by dealers. We owned a 2016 for almost 2 years after loving the rental we had and it was excellent. Not quite as luxurious as the Jeep, nor anywhere near as quick, but it was nice, the AWD worked extremely well in the winter and it was quiet, rode well, good on fuel and generally a positive experience for us.

I appreciate that the conditions that make them popular here may be different or not present in the 'states.

Yeah, the GC is a solid seller and the Jeep brand has more value for sure. The amount of variety that is/has been in the GC line alone is incredible. Look at the engine selection:the 3.6L V6, 3.0L diesel, 5.7L, 6.4L V8 and now the supercharged 707HP 6.2L. Nobody else offers anywhere near such a broad selection of power choices and they are all mated to the excellent ZF 8HP transmission family.

So are Toyotas as compared to the glory days of the 1970s to the middle 1990s., Ford has its poor performing models as well. You pay you money and you take your chances.

The prices look great. Anything to avoid on the GC?

This x 1,000,000

FCA = Junk? Might want to tell my dad's 2012 Dodge Caravan with 300K on it still running like a top with 0 issues, nothing replaced but brakes/tires and the accessory belt.

20" wheels and HID headlights. (We own two of them)

Also consider trailer tow; gets you fullsize spare, L/S rear, rear leveling suspension and transmission cooler.

By the way, the Durango is essentially a long wheelbase GC. Same exact running gear with exception to 3.0L Eco diesel and 6.4L

GC and Durango are not in same category: 2 row vs 3 row.

GC considered a premium offering over Durango; just look at the prices of the higher trim levels.
Only 1 trim level without leather in GC; 2 trim levels without leather in Durango.

At any rate, both benefit from the legacy engineering shared with ML350 from the Chrysler/Mercedes marriage, which is why they ride so well.

It is Mercedes platform and ZF transmission, same that you can find in BMW or Audi, though not as fast (still fast enough).
IMO, I would avoid V6. Durango is heavy vehicle, and HEMI is only right option. People who compare Highlander, Pilot etc. with transverse engines and part time AWD really have no idea what Durango is.

Do you know what is Durango based on.

The hemi seems to have issues and that was a concern.
