That EP pretty much what the new Mobil 1 is?carquest premium, but i run that or the extended protection on everything other than my personal vehicles in which i have a years worth of OG wire backed fram titanium’s.
EP is a synthetic media with polymer mesh backing. 99.5%@25um.That EP pretty much what the new Mobil 1 is?
I looked at several last week (boxes not taped up) - and Warren seems to have made cousins out of them - even the cellophane on the end. (Base gaskets don’t thrill me much either way) …
Thanks - how are you doing with those big fat XG transmission filters ? I have not even installed my mount yet and could give up a couple if you are running low …EP is a synthetic media with polymer mesh backing. 99.5%@25um.
the Mobil 1 is like a step sibling of the premium without the silicone gasket. it is 99%@30um. i would rather run a premium over the a Mobil 1 but people see the name and believe its better quality. the premium is 99.5%@20um
Honestly, just 5000 mile oil change intervals and the basic routine maintenance that comes with any vehicle has gotten me thus far. I’ve replaced an alternator, a water pump and a valve cover gasket and in that mileage. Knock on wood nothing major. I would say 95% of that mileage is highway as well.We should be asking you for advice, not the other way around…![]()
i’ll always horde more filters, but i haven’t changed any yet. both accords are coming up on service time so i’ll be changing and cutting those filters open. going to changed both transmission fluids as they both have ~30k on their sumps and the oil as my wife’s car is at 11.5k and mine is at 9500miles but burned multiple gallons to get there. Thanks - how are you doing with those big fat XG transmission filters ? Then there should be no issue with using any filter for 5K using Valvoline Restore and Protect.I’ve owned the vehicle since new and have put 254,000 miles on it with 5000 mile OCI’s.
It's almost like... routine oil changes matter the most instead of being picky/choosy about oils and filters?Honestly, just 5000 mile oil change intervals and the basic routine maintenance that comes with any vehicle has gotten me thus far. Light discoloration should just dissolve and not even get caught in the filter.I replaced the valve cover gasket about a month ago because it was leaking and when I took the valve cover off, there was light discoloration, but no deposits or buildup that I could see.
@NavyVet88, On the Valvoline Restore and Protect, you need to run the Valvoline Restore and Protect a minimum of 4 oci at a minimum of 4000 miles each before you may start to see any effect of the Valvoline Restore and Protect benefits. This information came directly from Valvoline tech. support. Maybe change the oil filter halfway at 2000 miles on each oci would be an idea. The oil seems to work, but it works rather slowly. You may want to takes some pics before you start so you can have some before and after to look at.Valvoline Restore and Protect for my civic at least for the first OCI.

Found it now - so the Mobil 1 is in the low 90’s at 20um …EP is a synthetic media with polymer mesh backing. 99.5%@25um.

Good question, I'm thinking about running Valvoline Restore And Protect and seeking what oil filter would work best for that oil.2013 Honda Civic LX 1.8L 254k
I’m thinking of running a MicroGard Select with Valvoline Restore and Protect for my civic at least for the first OCI. I’m sure ultimately it doesn’t really matter so long as it gets changed in a timely manner.
Would it be better to run a cheaper filter since it’ll be a 2k first OCI? Common sense says to use what I normally would, but just more curious if y’all went with something different than normal.
Good question, I'm thinking about running Valvoline Restore And Protect and seeking what oil filter would work best for that oil.
that's generally when switching to Valvoline Restore and Protect on very dirty engines.I’ve read on here on this site somewhere another about people running 2000 miles on the first OCI of Valvoline Restore and Protect and changing it.
In that case, I'd just run the MicroGard Select or Carquest Premium for the whole run of Valvoline Restore and Protect.I replaced the valve cover gasket about a month ago because it was leaking and when I took the valve cover off, there was light discoloration, but no deposits or buildup that I could see.
Most of the time. But in some of the Valvoline Restore and Protect threads in the PCMO forum there have been cases where high end oils were used with decent OCIs and the vehicle did start usually oil at some point. It's possible for rings to suffer from deposits while the rest of the engine looks clean. It's almost like... routine oil changes matter the most instead of being picky/choosy about oils and filters?
