Do you prefer a certain filter while running Valvoline Restore and Protect?

I’m thinking of running a MicroGard Select with Valvoline Restore and Protect for my civic at least for the first OCI. I’m sure ultimately it doesn’t really matter so long as it gets changed in a timely manner.

Would it be better to run a cheaper filter since it’ll be a 2k first OCI? Common sense says to use what I normally would, but just more curious if y’all went with something different than normal.

Why are you running a 2k OCI? Is it a NTY vehicle?

Are you expecting a large amount of caught dirt? If a canister style, are you going to open this first OCI?
I’ve read on here on this site somewhere another about people running 2000 miles on the first OCI of Valvoline Restore and Protect and changing it.

Maybe you could run the oil 5000mi and change filter of your choice midway if you are worried?
I’m not worried at all that a micro guard select would do very well in this application. I was just curious what others experiences were.

Microgard Select is a fine filter. 2k change seems a bit much, but not like it will hurt anything other than the wallet.
That wouldn’t be a problem at all. Seeing as how the general consensus is already a 5000 mile OCI then I will just do that. Thank you.

Even though I have some OG Fram wire backed - I have deliberately used AC Delco or Fram TG with Valvoline Restore and Protect or HPL Engine Cleaner 30 - looking for carbon bits (did not have any) …

what, why? the oil i use doesn't require a special or certain filter to be used.

Look into the filler hole to see if there is any sludge inside the engine. If it looks fairly clean, there's no reason to believe the filter will get clogged up over a normal oil change interval.

If, on the other hand, there looks to be some crud in the valve cover, you may benefit from changing the filter midway through the oil change.

If it's a new to you used vehicle or the service history is unknown, do a filter swap after 2K and cut it open and check it. If it looks fine, then 5K OCI should be fine with Valvoline Restore and Protect. PremiumG filters are great. I don't use any special filter other than those.

I changed filters at 600 miles and 1500 miles during the first Valvoline Restore and Protect run. Cut them open and they were both pristine. Total waste. I’m finishing the second run now 3800 miles and the oil is just starting to look a little darker.
The oil burning sure came to a halt. Just an FYI.

I replaced the valve cover gasket about a month ago because it was leaking and when I took the valve cover off, there was light discoloration, but no deposits or buildup that I could see.

If I was starting a regiment of Valvoline Restore and Protect, I'd want a high quality filter from day one. After all, the main purpose is to clean, therefore would want a filter which will catch as many particles as possible.

Use whatever you have but replace it at 1k and check the louvers to see how much stuff they trap. The valleys were pretty full of carbon at 1k when I used Valvoline Restore and Protect on my 09 Scion the first time. No need to change the oil at 2K.

I’ve owned the vehicle since new and have put 254,000 miles on it with 5000 mile OCI’s.
