Do you preemptively purchase a new battery at a specific time interval?

MIL's 2001 Lesabre went 11 years on its OE battery. Wife's HHR did at least ten. Both are mounted away from engine heat.

You just might be onto something here. Original battery in my 07 Mazda3 lasted 10 years. Was still working great, Dad changed it because Mom was going out of town by herself.

Battery is mounted in an enclosed battery box under hood, with a cold air duct feeding into it from the front edge of the hood. Maybe the lack of underhood heat really does contribute to life span? Car had 100k at least when the battery was changed, and was her daily driver.
