Optima Batteries

What's the general consensus on AGM batteries in the upper-Midwest?

Are AGM batteries worth the price difference? Considering a new battery before the cold winter hits and wanted to do my due diligence before I decide one way or the other.

And lastly, are Optima batteries still considered top tier batteries or are there other brands/manufacture's' to consider? I've had a company vehicle for the last 8+ years and never had to purchase any sort of maintenance items until I moved on from that job.

Thanks for all your help and feedback.
Don't bother

Odyssey in my HD is now 13 yrs old. Cranks like a champ. Always on a BM when in the garage.

I think the one in my truck is a year older even than yours.

The aftermarket prodigy controller is a continuous parasitic drain but even so It rarely gets a maintainer.
It gets driven 20 miles at least once a week.

In the decade I had running a boat shop and not only seeing, but charging and maintaining hundreds upon hundreds of different brand batteries (some boats had 6) Odysseys are the only AGM battery I've personally seen that are worth the extra money.

I have replaced some of my batts recently in my off-road stuff, compared the old and the new weight wise, and they were identical.

My first pair of optima's were good years ago, usa made- after that not so much. I just buy lead acid now at costco or walmart- I refuse to pay those kind of dollars again.

Get a deka. My 3 year old deka AGM is testing about 15% above it's rated cca.
It was only marginally more expensive than a cheap flooded lead acid and seems to be worth it.
