Do you pre-fill the filter with oil during OC?

When I was a teenager I had a 1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass and the filter mounted vertically, and, yes, I would do this. In fact, I filled it with Marvel's Mystery Oil. At present I do not do this at all as the Avalon filter mouth actually points downhill a little bit and it would make a huge mess.

I have been changing oil for more than thirty years, and I have never pre-filled a filter.
You could, and it certainly wouldn't hurt, but I'm not sure that it would help all that much, either.

I prefill when possible. The cars I've seen with filters where the mounts face up (and the filter opening faces down) that I recall are older Ferrari V12's and older Mazda rotary engines. The Ferrari's sometimes have two filters.

I pre-filled my oil filter on the last change. It was the first time my oil pressure light didn't come on with the first startup. I don't know how much damage is done by running on first startup for a few seconds without oil pressure, but being able to reduce that to what appears to be no difference from a normal startup would seem to be an improvement.

It's not practical on my cars.... with the horizontal mounted filters..... I try to be efficient in that I don't wait that long between drain and fill... there's still some oil on the parts by the time I hit the key.

Pre-fill here.

My filter sits vertical, so it's not an issue at all.

The one thing I did notice is that the 1st time I turn it over just after a change, it's a LOT less noisy, and the chance of it actually starting is a lot greater.

I pre fill mine. I even pour some oil on the cartridge ones so the fibers are wet already on startup. On my Ford since the filter is horizontal, i fill it once, then once the oil soaks into the fibers I install it even though its not "full". It eliminates the oil light and tick at initial startup.... It gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling

I try and saturate the element as much as I can.

For the Harley's, the shop manual recommends about 1/4 fill. I'll saturate (roll around filter), then with about 1/4 fill, quickly spin it on. Minimize the rattle and time for the oil pressure light to go out upon start.

On a previous car (CRX), it would rock & roll if I didn't do some pre-fill - enough to nab my attention big time for a few seconds.

All the larger diesels I worked with had pre-lube systems.

I've not had a one of my cars rattle tick or sputter on a dry filter start-up. I must have magic motors.... or the Mega Ultra Life Nano-Lube that I swear by... oh wait.. I don't use any of that stuff...

As long as you are at it, put your hand over the open end and shake the pre filled filter, then swirl it around for good measure.

I hate seeing all those cars going down the road with smoke coming out of the tailpipe because they go to quick lube places that don't prefill.
