.before you decide which actor/actress you will watch at the movies? I hear all the b$ about what/who they are doing in their personal life. I don't give a rats behind and couldn't care less about their personal life. What seems to be hard to come by lately is a movie worth watching regardless of whoever starring.

I said before that if an actor is a good actor, you shouldn't worry about his personal life, but enjoy his/her performance.
I'm not paying my $8 or whatever because of their opinions, or their antics, or anything else, but their performance. If they're good at what they do, that's all I care about. If they suck, they suck.

Back in the old days I knew the names of actors and actresses. They seemed bigger than life back in those days. But today, I don't even know the names of a lot of these actors and actresses. I watch the movie and decide if I like the movie or not. I don't pay a lot of attention to who the actors and actresses are. One of the few actors I notice today is Gene Hackman. I like Sean Penn as an actor inspite of what he is like in his personal life.

I will go see a movie and tell people later on what a great movie I saw. Somebody will ask me who the actors and actresses were in the movie and I will not be able to tell them. To me, the movie is important and not the actors and actresses.

To me now, movies are so important that I wait until they are DVDs. And I could generally care less who's in them.

Although I do get annoyed with the Tom and Katie circus, the Britney circus, the Mel Gibson and Russel Crow circus, (then we move on to the Shane Warne circus when it comes to sports).

These people become heros and role models to kids and teenagers. Their behaviour is attrocious.

Shucks, by golly, this old coot tossed the TV for 14 years and substituted non-fiction reading as a pass-time.

But, upon reaching the age of cootness, a TV re-entered the realm.

Allowed many re-runs to be viewed as new.

Sure did like that Roseanne show.

But, the personal lives of the actors?

Bwa hah hah ha hah hah hah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let them come down to my level.

Down down down.... ever downwards upon the socio-economic pyramid. To the shanty level.

Too many of those "celebrities" earn more in one year than this curmudgeon will have made in a lifetime performing the tasks that fed and housed folks; assisted in allowing the masses to survive. Same is likely true for you. And you. And you over there cutting open that oil filter. Is that a Fram?

Pondered the "hero worship" thing. Remember, class, the media promotes otself. The entertainment industry is tied into the media. Consider the constant flood of entertainment industry "news" to merely be advertising. It is also filler to fill in the time slots or pages of media.

As for folks who go bonkers over their stars, their "heroes," believe it is merely a part of the human psyche involved with "pack status." Humans are a social pack creature. Obbop believes many folks view the celebrities as "top dogs."

But, what does an old coot shivering in a shanty know about anything?

Thank heaven I can choose what I want to watch. Once the tabloids come on I change the channel.... that is, unless SHE has the remote!

Thanks Al, I saved the link. A quick scan of the list and Ive prolly watched 80% at least. I agree with most of them, but I have never understood what is so hot about "Citizen Kane" Here's a site Ive found: http://www.imdb.com/ Thats where I get my movie info.

...

Me too. We just wait and can make a good down payment on a steak for what you spend on bucket of popcorn. Plus, I really don't care for the the uncontrolled kids running up and down the aisles while I'm trying to concentrate on the movie.

Why should we care at all who the actors and actresses are in the movie? It is really the movie that counts. Asking who the actors and actresses were in a movie would be like a guy getting his Corvette fixed and people asking him who the mechanics were who fixed his car. People are going to ask how his car runs now that he got it fixed.

People get too hung up on these actors and actresses. And too hung up on their personal lives. Some of these people are a total mess in their personal lives. But every time I watch a good movis and I tell people that I saw a really good movie, somebody has to ask who the actors and actresses were in the movie. And then they are surprised that I really did not memorize the names of the actors and the actresses. I went to the movie to see the movie.

You are welcome. I understand what you are saying about "Citizen Kane" I think if you rent the movie and view the couple of Critic Reviews included on the DVD you'll see why it is so honored.

I must admit that the movies on that list made in the late 30's to early 50's require some patience and an awareness that you are watching a classic. The enjoyment you receive is mostly (to me) an awareness of the "art" of the movie.

Watched "IKE" again last night.. Its about Eisenhower and his role as Supreme Commander during D-Day. The movie is extraordinary bc it is factually accurate.

Mystic, I agree that Gene Hackman is a national treasure. He has one of those voices you could pick out anywhere.

I would have liked to have seen Hackman play Jack Nicholson's role in "A few good men".

Gene Hackman perforated Leonardo DiCaprio in "Quick and the Dead".

He deserves praise simply for that.

Gene Hackman to me is sort of like the old time actors and actresses who seemed larger than life. I really like his acting. Plus, he also vaguely looks like my Dad when my Dad was alive and when my Dad was somewhat younger. He even talks just a little like my Dad used to talk. But mainly he is just a really good actor. But I am not going to see a movie just because Hackman is acting in the movie. I will see the movie because I am interested in the movie. Who plays in, produces, or directs a movie is usually not important to me. I do however really like Clint Eastwood directed movies. I liked 'Mystic River' and 'Million Dollar Baby.' And I will watch 'Flags of Our Fathers' when it comes out on DVD.

Mel Gibson disappointed me very, very much recently but I will still see that new movie of his when it comes out on DVD. It is really supposed to be good. I personally cannot stand Jane Fonda and a movie has to be incredibly good for me to watch any movie that she acts in.

But I try very hard not to make decisions about movies based on what actors and actresses are in the movie. I want to see the MOVIE and not the actors and actresses. It is the responsibility of the actors and actresses, the producers and directors, for the MOVIE to be great.
