Yes, Im a expediter on the road delivering mainly auto parts to factories that need them right now.

I can take a run or not, I can go to breakfast, lunch and supper when I want, go on vacation when I want, go home when I want,go to work or not when I want, take days off when I want, no listening to a idiot to tell me when i can take a break, no inventory to do, enjoy seeing the USA and getting paid to see it,,best job in the world so far, well that's my story and I love my job.

I love my job, decent pay and benefits and I am pretty much my own boss.
Myself and one helper maintain a fleet of 56 school buses of all shapes and sizes for a small bus contracting company, I have been here 28 years and I have it made job wise, , It can get busy at times but after this many years we have it down to where the job is easy. I set my own work load and can go days without seeing my boss.
It didnt always use to be like this , vehicles realy are far more reliable than they used to be, I cant remember the last time we replaced an engine or trans. It is all about routine maintanance and electrical issues now.

I would like to have either one of these jobs. Living on social security stinks.

CourierDriver, put on an extra truck and I'm on my way to Tennessee.

Love my job. Took a big pay and benefit cut when I got it, but it’s my dream job. Supervising Park Ranger over the vegetation management program for the county parks.

I use to be a National Park Ranger but had to give that up when I ran for state assembly in 1990. Became a school bus driver and made good money, but management was always trying to screw with me which made work a pain. I saw this job announcement and applied. While it is a pay and benefit cut, it is a promotion and best of all, health wise it was a great choice. I drive from the city to the mountains every day (81 mile RT commute). I watch the beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

I wouldn’t have been able to take this job if it wasn’t for the fact we bought our house in 1991. Our mortgage is low and our house is probably worth 3 times what we paid for and the wife gets to work part time at the martial arts studio that the kids train at.

I LOVE my job. Never the same day twice. Meet tons of nice folks, travel a bit if I like, choose my days and hours when I want.

Doing pretty good financially too, and not many business owners are there anymore.

I love my job! Being a full time father to a 12 year old autistic son is the best job I have ever had! A benefit is the joy he brings me when he comes up to me and says, "I love you dad."

The pay can't be described.

Now I use to work in plant maintenance and loved it but now have been retired from that for 6 years. My other job, not really a job I guess, is playing drums again in a band. The pay covers my expenses which is all I need for it to do. As long as it's fun, I'll keep at it.

I use to love IT, but there is no "thrill". I taught myself what I know and it used to be a hobby. I love helping people but the "learning" new technologies and software is long lost. It feels stale with no innovation(for my own interests).

I would love to go into my real passion which is what I originally went to school for, but the degree is basically useless and what was taught even more so. Business Management and Administration. I wanted to have my own company, but alas I wouldn't even know where to begin and I can't risk anything like that at this point in time. Secondly I don't even know what I would do anymore besides consulting which has become down right nasty at this point in time.

My offical job now is RETIREMENT!! My wife and I have a decent living without me having a part time job, but as a welder and having my own equiptment I still do work on my own. Also my old company(a machine shop)still calls me in from time to time as needed. Also another company calls me for welding as well. I enjoy the freedom I have to be my own man.

I genuinely like what I do.

I always wanted to be a mobile electronics installer.

I don't get to build the dream systems I always wanted to. It's not perfect. I install breathalyzers in DWI offender's cars. I get the sense that I'm doing something good. Keeping people who made a bad decision and drove under the influence safe and productive members of society instead of in prison.

I earn a fair wage. I'll never become wealthy at this pay but I earn a good living.

And compared to the low pay-per-install wage I made mostly installing car phones (remember those?) or the [heck] that was installing asset protection devices and otherwise polishing [feces] at a large "tote the note" lot, I'm quite happy. Quite a bit happier than I ever was with dealing with the terminally stupid drivers automobile operators at Western Auto.

It's all about wanting what you have, not getting what you want.

Johnny, I've researched expediting and the midwest, specifically Wisconsin, northern Illinois, Ohio is THE hotspot for getting into it because that is where most machine/tooling companies reside in the US. Expediters mostly deliver one off custom tooled parts in your area. You should look into it if you're bored. You can make a decent chunk of change doing it, but you're on the road 24/7.

I'd LOVE doing it but in my area, there simply are no opportunities to do it.

I've worked in 2 larger sized corporations now, at the bottom, and it is a shark tank. I no longer want ANYTHING to do with that bull [censored], especially when it's in the medical industry/hospitals.

I knew it was dinked at this most recent job when most of the medical lab workers smelled like ash trays and had more ink on their bodies then the Sunday edition of the New York Times.

Why can't people shut the ^%$! up, do their work, and then shut the ^&*! up!

Ah well, live and learn I guess. That's why I love working for smaller family owned companies because your ability to do your job cost effectively trumps everything else.

It seems straight up work ethic is not a desirable trait in most large businesses. They look at you like you're an alien if you say hey, I'll take care of that or hey, I'll do that. They think you're a brown noser or something. NO! I want something to do! I don't want to stand around riding the gossip train.

Retired ChE. but I do some offshore consulting (Metallurgical extraction and refining process). There are several benefits including no permitting, EPA hassels and the pay is great. I work at my leisure and the locations are very good.

The company I work for that I mentioned earlier is small (about 40 employees) and 3rd generation privately owned, it is a good thing most of the time, how many people have the ceo"s private cellphone#? Its more like were all friends and btw the workers including me are union members!

Love most part of my job because I love engineering (software, electrical, mechanical, etc). The hours and deadline stress is tough however, but once you solved a mystery you felt like you are a cop putting a bad guy behind bars.

Not blue-collar but a the end of the day I get home tired and beat. I do not drink or smoke but can see how easy to fall in that trap without self control.

My job has gone from requiring skill and technique to being an automated computer babysitter. Pay remains awful, mental demands low.

But I have plenty of energy for hobbies, and time for it with a 4 day work week. And lots of internet wasting time at the office.

When the kids get bigger it's on to something else; my shift allows me to watch them while wife works "something normal."
