Do you have a favorite fuel?

I've always used AMOCO/BP, Valero, Hess, Shell, ExxonMobil. Now that I am in the south I usually use Speedway, Circle K and Marathon. I like that Marathon has STP additives in their fuel.
What are those additives? How do they compare to the additives in Top Tier fuel and the other fuels in your area?

Probably equivalent to the red bottle of stp fuel treatment. Marathon is a top tier fuel so I would believe on par with the others. The stp liking is more preference.

We have a Sunoco station in town, and I think it's the only "Top Tier" fuel station close by so I fill up there when I can. Otherwise it's usually Sheetz.

It's just a brand name. Top Tier is just a testing and marketing standard. A lot of fuel marketers give a fancy name to their additive, even when it's just an off the shelf or custom product bought from companies like Lubrizol or Afton. And one of the really weird things is that Chevron Oronite has Top Tier tested detergent additives and sell those to Chevron's competitors. Their customers will then submit Chevron Oronite's test data to Top Tier to get certified and pledge that they'll use it with the required concentrations.

gasoline/petrol additives
Oronite offers a full line of gasoline deposit control additives to meet our customers’ cost and performance targets. Our OGA additive packages for refinery and branded retail gasoline includes regulatory compliance packages formulated to meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Final Rule Lowest Additive Concentration (LAC) requirements and/or California Air Resources Board (CARB) requirements. Our performance additive packages exceeds Top Tier™ standards.

Every bulk detergent additive must be on this EPA list in order to be used in US pump fuel. It's easy enough for a company to just buy something ready made and claim it as their own product. I don't see STP or Energizer (STP's parent company) on this list.

Aftermarket fuel treatments need to be listed.

My favorite fuel?

Nitromethane mixed with a lil alcohol.

Gasoline is for washing parts, alcohol is for drinking, and fuel is for racing.

I prefer Shell or Mobil. I would love Chevron, but it isn´t available near me. I probably fuel up more at Costco now than anywhere else because of Top Tier, price, and convenience.

This is a question I'd be intrigued to find out answers for.

Do you have a favorite fuel? No proper science behind it, purely butt dyno and personal findings from how your car drives?

I've ran 3 different diesel vehicles over the last 8 years or so. I have always found that my favorite diesel is BP Ultimate Diesel. (Here in the UK).

My diesels always seem to run nice and quiet on it. My uncle (that has the same engine with less miles) commented on how quiet mine was. (Totally un-scientific of course).

So, do you have a "Go-To" fuel you often prefer?

She’ll, because I have their app and I get a minimum of 10 cents per gallon off per fill.

I have T-mobile as my wireless carrier and they offer a special on Tuesdays (through their promotion app) where I can get an additional 10 cents per gallon off for a few days afterward, so I tend to grab that stacked savings and fill. It’s a 20 gallon max.

Otherwise I’ll grab whatever is cheaper since Shell isn’t in every town I pass through. ARCO is another I’ve used without issue.

Cenex once upon a time had a tankful of contaminated fuel that caused my cargo van to need a fuel flush and repair. That story was unusual in that the shop supervisor was married to the manager of the Cenex station I got it from. He wasn’t happy with me. 🤨

My favorite fuel..... some of you of a certain age group know exactly what this smells like, before and after its burned.

QuikTrip. RaceTrac could easily win my business with their great locations in my area, but they refuse to get on board with Top Tier for reasons which they adamantly and stubbornly refuse to explain, while holding their prices exactly equal to QuikTrip.
