I have about 2-3 weeks then have two oil changes slotted. While I'm waiting I'll be servicing two transmissions, three PS units, two grease jobs and a tire rotation. I might do one last coat of wax on my Jeep too.

I sometimes change oil so fast i cause undue wear on my engine. I actually LOOK for excuses to change the oil, such as "I went more than halfway on the throttle so now its dirty."

its true..............

NO!! You were a big influence on myself. Something you said to me one time helped me to get to 6000. It was common sense. Don't let the noobs here swallow you in!

Dude use your rational thinking skills that you used to have! Does this have anything to do with you turning 21? Dude you can have a beer or two without changing oil. Keep on waxing...but leave that oil in there! Better for the environment better for your wallet. This thread is NOOB CENTRAL!

He gave you the inspiration for Long OCIs? Seems he realized the error of his ways!

Now if he stops putting 0W-20 in EVERYTHING all is right in the world.

I work at a Mobil express quick lube and do about 40-60 oil changes a week, so no, I don't get bored or depressed between oil changes.

Wait till you get old and arthritic, then those OCI's come way too soon

. I enjoy getting the most miles I can out of my OCI's. Once a year for my car & truck, about 5,000 miles and twice a year for the wife's Exploder. She runs around 9000 miles every 6 months, mostly highway.

I found myself suffering from severe depression
mad.gif
and didn't know why. One day I did an oil change after 45K on convenience store dino

and started feeling good about myself
banana2.gif
. I realized it was the oil change that did it, so I started changing my oil every other day

.

Now the depression is back because I realize how I am polluting the environment with the waste oil

+1

Around my place, all my friends and family know its..BYOF. Bring your own filter, and I got the oil.

For my own cars and trucks, I am working to extend my OCI habits. I grew up in the 3/3,000 era and now run most of my cars one year or 6,000 miles, depending on use.

You got that right!
I don't mind oil changes.
They are kind of fun.
However, in mid-winter, when something is due for an oil change, I get on with it, but I can't say that I look forward to it.
The older I get, the less enjoyment I get from maintenance and repair.
There was a time when I almost wanted things to break so that I could fix them.
The cars usually obliged me.
I also followed the 3K OCI interval religiously, which may have made sense with carbed engines and the oils then available.
I am thankful that vehicles of the vintages we have don't require nearly as much maintenance or repair as did the vehicles we once owned.
There is so much more that one can do with a Saturday.

You don't recycle it?

I just went 7 months in the Astra on GC, my longest OCI ever time-wise. Car has 10k now, I could see brown stuff on the cam. 3500 or so on the GC.

Wife reports the Havoline 5w-20 that went in as "zippy".

I got depressed after changed oil and had used oil in gallon milk jugs to take it to recycle centers. I hated transporting used oil to recycle centers, afraid of spilling. The hate of taking used oil to recycle centers forces me to change oil once a year on each car, therefore I use synthetic.

Thinner Oil, even one grade thinner, usually makes an engine "come alive" or feel "zippy" and rev easier.

I know this very well. And as long as you know its lubricating even BETTER than thick stuff.. cool beans.

Those easier revs would scare me, coming from a thicker oil.

Yes, but that has been treated by the enormous work load from school this semester. Went over the 5k miles this time, which is a first. I changed it on Wednesday as soon as I got home from school for Thanksgiving. It was piping hot after a nice 100 mile drive. Will probably do it again in March or April.
