I never drink while working, whether it's to make a living or more importantly, on my hobbies :^) Too many small details to look for and keep track of. Once the progressive loaders became popular and I heard why some people liked using them I tried to pay attention to who I was shooting next to on the firing line. Some said that they could make lots of ammo while watching TV, and others liked having a few beers.

A few American made beers or my home made beer without chemicals/ether keeps my head clear as I do some maintaninance, it is the chemicals/ether in Canada brewed beer that makes me disorientated and sick after one. It helps to let the ether release a couple minutes from a Canadian brewed beer before drinking it, still that wont stop getting sick/headaches. A few pure water sourced non chemical beer will not effect vehicle maitainance in my opinion, 6-12 is different story, a few beers daily is great maintanance for the human body as one maintains the car.

Within reason yes. I consider beer an energy drink. Nothing harder than beer whille working on cars however and usually I do not drink until I am beyond the technicla portions of the work.

did dring a tequilla sunrise before cutrting up two oil filters tonight.. but that's not reallya mechanical type project, nore like demolition+ photography.

edit to say that technical writing is beyond me while consuming...

Cars? No, but when doing work around the house I put on a t shirt and jeans and a Springsteen album to make me feel more appropriate.

I find that even the slightest amount of alcohol pretty much ruins whatever faculties I have for working on anything more complicated than a remote control.

What's your take?

Where ya watching it? I may go to Buffalo Wild Wings in Fredericksburg with some buds (friends, not the beer

) if it doesn't snow too bad.

ON topic: I usually don't indulge more than 1 while I'm working. I like to stay focused and since I'm such a light-weight these days, more than 2 or 3 and I wouldn't have much confidence in my work. Now AFTER I'm done is a different story

. Or if I'm watching a friend do work while lending my, uh, expertise

. Especially if he/she buys some pizza too for my "efforts". I work cheap

No beer for me...I like drinking coffee (or any caffeinated drink) while I'm working on my cars.

The couple of times that I've drank & worked on cars, I wound up with either extra parts leftover or a flashlight, wrench, screwdriver, etc. missing after I shut the hood.

Not good.

Alcoholic beverages make me deathly ill anymore.

However, I will on a hot day, pound the Diet-Rite soda pop if there's any within reach. Usually, my girl is at the ready with a big glass if ice water.

Nothing quite comes close to eating lunch in the garage in the middle of a job. There's just something very "right" about an open pizza box sitting under the hood.

Kind of a funny topic,,I never drink when work is to be done, after a cold one or two is in order at times,or a good bicycle ride, walk or test drive ...one time LONG time ago I was drinking and thought its time to change oil in my Mustang,,, out of my oil collection I put one brand of each oil,5 qts,,bet a oil anyl. would have been fun....BL

No enhancements or depressents until after the work is completed and even then I made head over to a Pepsi. Just don't have time or the energy these days for mind altering consumables.

In general, parts go together easier with lubrication than without. Alcohol is a form of physiological and psychological "lubrication," and therefore it is a good thing. And the more alcohol consumed, the better the "lubrication." High alcohol intake can only ENHANCE your shade tree activities. This is an essential truth -- all other answers are invalid!

I highly recommend downing a 12 pack of any cheap beer before beginning vehicle repairs.

On a hot day if I am doing a mainly muscle job, I will have a beer. A fiddly job or one using power tools, I skip it. 20 years ago, when I resided my house, it took a lot of beer. My son survived the day we put continuous ridge vents on our 2 story house. Late inn the job, he came back up with a Sprite, and said he didn't think I need another beer.
