Do ya'll tip on Non Self-Serve Gas States. I just don't get it....am I supposed to as a customary or not ? I hate when the tank is full, and the attendent is trying to fill another 1/2 gallon, etc, just trying to get the tank to it's MAX.
NJ and Oregon. I hate not being allowed to pump my own gas in that state. What, is the general public too stupid to do even that? Or just Oregonians? (I know not all Oregonians are stupid, just the ones who set and/or agree with public policy therequote:

No. Due to a stupid state law (NJ and where else?) you are being forced to go through a process that is not required in what, 48 states? That's like tipping at Burger King. Maybe if you ask the guy to do all sorts of checks under the hood and he does them, but just to put the stupid nozzle in the hole until it stops?
I just looked up Oregon's gas pumping law, and there is a provision that allows bikers to pump their own gas if they ask to. Maybe it's there so the bikers won't beat up high school and college kids who'd spill gas on their bikes.quote:

The only people I let pump their own gas when I worked in NJ were bikers. I was concerned about their paint jobs if I spilled gas on the tanks. I just stood by and watched.
So you'd rather PAY a 20-30c premium in another state for the ability to pump your own gas???quote:

I used to live in NJ and still get there about once a month. Gas is a bit cheaper there, but I too would rather pump my own.

First of all, you assume a 20 to 30 cent difference. The difference between Vermont gas prices and NJ prices is more on the order of a nickel or so.
Second, in NJ, at a busy station, you may wait up to 5 minutes before an attendant even comes to your vehicle. He starts the pump up, wanders away, and does not return for maybe another 5 minutes. During that time, the pump may have a false trip, and you either have to go out to restart it yourself, or wait for him to return to restart it, after which he wanders away again for a second time.
Then the aforementioned going away out of sight with your credit card, vs. paying at the pump at a self serve, where the credit card never leaves your hand. Then you wait another 3 minutes or so for him to process the card, and return with a slip for you to pay.
So you would prefer to spend all this time buying gas so that someone else will pump it for you???![]()
