I am just curious, I see that on timing belt engines the timing belt cover isn't sealed, or meant to keep oil in. do timing chain engines not have a typical cam seal or is there a dedicated oil line to keep the chain and tensioners oiled by the engine oil? I just can't picture the set-up!

not anymore, citing that they (t-chain type) no longer need an extra hole for the distributor housing (Shaft+ and drive gear) to go through.
Most OBD-II cars with individual coil over spark plug type configurations, the chain cover now completely sealed (on the camshaft ends), or comes with a plug (like some Honda engines nowadays).

Oil gets flung around the valve cover area and on at least some OHC designs you can see the chain off to the side.
On my saturn, the oil pump gerotor ran off the crank snout and was right near the chain... and sprayed oil everywhere while also pumping.
The tensioner usually runs off oil pressure, though there'll be a guide between it and the chain.

Sarcasm alert:
I have seen many various OHC engines with timing chains have caps on the cam end (that part is true). I always assumed this was for if SHTF, you could slap a distributor on there with points and plumb some carburetor on there to run through any EMP that gets thrown your way.
