sweet! just found out a mom and pop shop carries Amsoil but at $8.50 a quart. ouch!!! but it is dexIII and he said that it is compatiable with other dexIII atf's.... i asked bc i am only going to do drain and fills. would this be a waste?

I am using dexron-6 made by Petro Canada in my 98 Camry for about 9 months now, I am not noticing any difference other than what a drain and fill with fresh fluid would indicate.

They came out with the multi-vehicle labeling when they switched their additive package. Don't be put off, it is good stuff. I have used it (the multi-vehicle Mercon V/Dex III) in my Tundra.

Dex VI might be OK in the older trannies, but IIRC it is thinner. The Mobil 1 ATF already shears quite a bit. I wouldn't use it. Why take a chance? The Dex III stuff works fine. Currently in the middle of swapping over to the Amsoil just because the Mobil 1 has gotten more expensive. It is at least $6/qt around here. I am buying the Amsoil oil anyway, so it is convenient to buy the ATF.

yeah i am switching to amsoil (mulit- vehicle) type formula that supports ALL of the dex's from 2-6.. so guess in theory you can run dex6 in all dex3 trannies but i aint going to find out. ill stick with amsoil.

The Transfer case in my 2006 GMC truck calls for DexIII specifically and NOT DexVI (printed in the owners manual). So I have been using Mobil1 ATF with no problems.
