Do Injector cleaners effect analysis results?

I was looking at my three analysis results and realized that on the two results where my Lead readings were high, I had used Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner during those oil changes. The other analysis where the lead levels were significantly lower, I did not use any fuel system cleaners.

Does anyone know if the Techron contains lead or could have somehow caused more lead to appear in the oil?

On my 3,076 sample, without using a fuel system cleaner, my lead level was 18 PPM. This was my second analysis.
On my 3,010 sample, using the Techron, my lead level was 43 PPM. This was my third analysis.

My first analysis at 5,069 miles and using the Techron, my Lead PPM was 55.

Is this just a coincidence or is there a correlation here?

I can only answer part of your question. Chevron Techron does not contain lead and is not a lead additive, only a cleaner. The lead is high on your last analysis. I would go to a 10W30 or something like Delvac I 5W40 if you only want to use Synthetic.

If the correlation is correct and there are no other culprits then know that some fuel additives will clean lead bearing overlay off internal engine components by getting by the rings and valve guide seals.

More often than not I see increased lead ppm from a driver who is using a "lead Foot" and the oil wedge is broken causing a mixed or barrier lubrication situation where ther has been no plating of EP adds.

Oops! I have neutra 131 in my fuel tank right now- may affect the oil I send in next week, hmm... Well I'll be sure to put it w/the other info. I also used a little anti-sieze on the drain plug 4 or 5 oil changes ago

In my 10,500 mile drain with my escort, I had a full bottle of neutra 131 in the oil for the last half to texas and back. Don't remember any problems due to the neutra on my analysis.

Thats what I do Stuart. Just try to keep the variables to a minimum. I hate it when guys send me a completely diferent brand of oil or mix 3 or 4 different adds to see if we can really tell North from South .

Thanks for the information. I am not a lead foot driver do I don't think thats the cause. My driving habits were the same on the last two analysis's other than the second one was run mainly during the colder monthes. I'll run my next analysis with out the fuel system cleaner and see what I get.

wtd, other possibilites are that the lead elevated in the winter because the oil doesn't flow as fast as the newer electronic fuel injected cars start deforming the lead bearing overlay showing increased wear. What oil is it you were using? You might try one with a little better boundary layer protection or thinner weight.

He was using Mobil 1 TriSynthetic 5w30. I think the 5w30 may be thinning out too much for him under stress, causing the elevated wear.

I use Techron in all 7 gasoline engines. No effect on Lead or anything else I can correlate. I have noticed that using Diesel conditioner/cleaner in every tank (Diesel engines) reduces the soot and leave a higher TBN.

Actually my best lead level(18ppm) was on the oil I ran during most of the winter months.

During the two analysis reports that I used the Techron, my viscosity was actually above the 55-61 SUS Viscosity@210 degrees F range that Blackstone labs uses to figure viscosity. My first 5,069 mile analysis was at 62.8 and my last 3,010 mile analysis was at 61.8. The second analysis where I didn't use the Techron, my viscosity was at 56.7. Blackstone told me that anything above the 61 means the oil is starting to thicken. This is why I was wondering if using a fuel system cleaner was altering my analysis in some way.
