Do I need to flush crankcase before using Amsoil?

Since Amsoil is a different animal altogether unlike other synthetic out there, I wonder if I need to flush or do a deep drain before putting it my cars.

I read somewhere that true certain heavy duty synthetic doesn't mix well with other oil. Currently, I am using M1 but like to experience Amsoil in my older car as it sees 30k miles a year. I am thinking about changing oil every 6 month, which is rougly 15k. Fresh filter will be used every 3 months to keep the oil clean.

Also, is any retailer out there stock Amsoil? I hate to see the look on well-off post office workers when they try to jam a big oil jug into my P.O. box.

No I see no reason to flush your engine, with the M1 in there it should be plenty clean in there already.

As far as I know no retailer stocks amsoil, you could try and find a dealer around you, or have them mail the oil to a friends house.

And for the filter changes, I think with 15k, you could use an amsoil filter and change every 6 months.

flush with what? Kerosene? stoddard solvent? AutoRx? or OTC 10-min flush in a can?

You gotta be careful with what you use in your engine these days... the likeliness of overdoing it causing trouble down the road is likely (IMHO) and I don't like to add unnecessary solvents into engine crankcase anyways...

My 2c's worth. I'm a big fan of AutoRx and I don't see the need for use any "laxative" in your engine before switching over to Amsoil. Afterall: Amsoil is just one of the boutique motor oil that is compatable with ordinary OTC oils to begin with...

flush with Amsoil itself. Basically, fill and run it for 100 miles, drain, and fill back again. The slightly used Amsoil would go straight to my other vehicle, so there is no lost or waste.

I thought Amsoil doesn't like to be mixed with other oil. And yes, the engine is squeaky clean with M1 even at 360k miles. I just want to try Amsoil to know what it is about first hand instead of just reading about it.

Coming from using Mobil 1 already, I wouldn't bother with a flush. I would normally recommend Auto-RX if coming from Dino, but I think you'll be fine

I agree. I wouldn't flush it either. It will accomplish nothing. I've run Amsoil a couple of times and I saw no need for a flush. Amsoil is compatible with all motor oils, so it's compatible with the few ounces of old oil that are still in there

Mobil1 user going to Amsoil, worry about something else the flush is almost pointless. Would not hurt but only do VERY little good.

Amsoil mixes fine with other oils.

If your oil system is rather clean then there is no need to flush. Just don't run a long OCI the first go. 8K max. You 6 month plan sounds good after that.

Amsoil delivers UPS, not PO. In fact they won't deliver to PO BOx. Just order from a site sponsor (see link in my sig) and have it delivered to a physical address.

I switched from Mobil 1 extended performance, to Amsoil series 3000 in my jeep 4.0. Here is what I did. I ran Lubegard engine flush per directions, a NON-solvent flush with esters. I then put in the Amsoil with a standard filter for 3,000 miles. At this point I put on the EAO filter. Maybe unnecessary but I sleep well at night with warm fuzzy oil happiness

I wouldn't consider Amsoil "a different animal". It's just a good synthetic oil.

Pablo is a good man to get it from, and I echo everyone else here (so far) that says you don't need a flush.

There is absolutely no need to flush, at all. Just use it like you would any other motor oil.. It's nothing special.

I went to the Amsoil 0w30 oil when I had 118,000 miles on my 1993 Civic. I didn't do anything special except doing the first change at 1,000 miles. I had used conventional oil (Castrol 5w30 GTX)for many years before going with the Mobil 1 oil for a while. I now have 219,000 miles and going strong.In short, I recommend doing the first change early to see what you have and then go from there.

Is there a recommended procedure for changing to AMSOIL Motor Oils?

There are no special requirements; however, in older vehicles or those with high mileage, it may be advisable to use AMSOIL Engine Flush first. This will ensure that the engine is clean and free of any accumulated contaminants which might have an effect on the service life of AMSOIL Motor Oils. In all cases, it is good judgement to install a new AMSOIL Absolute Efficiency Oil Filter (EaO) every time you change oil.

gotcha. Thanks guy. I am on the site that someone here referenced me to. Let's hope them sale them in drum because I have a lot of cars that will run Amsoil once this small experience is done. It is much easier to run all vehicles using same oil, and I have 15 now for the family delivery service.

No need to flush if you have been running Mobil 1.
Yes, AMSOIL sells in drums, but for most that is overkill.
15 vehicles will take something like 20 gallons of oil.
You can get it in gallons and quarts, and it is much easier to handle--minimal cost difference. Best tip: get set up as a dealer, and the few extra bucks a year it costs will come back to you as a refund.

Thank Falls Church. Is that VA by any chance? I just hooked up with this fellow at the race track in Maryland and he said he can drop off a barrel once in awhile since he knows the people I went to school with. That's sweet or what!!! Hopefully, it is about 30 gallons barrel.
