PP= Pennzoil Platinum 26.99w/Bosch Distance Plus oil Filter @ Advance Auto

Walmart 23.50 for 5qt. jug.

It is one of the best oils out there. BUT AMSOIL is great (all oil IMO) and an American Co. so there is a definite benefit there too.

If you like to go by labels and the "safe recommendations" of Amsoil, then use the XL. If you want to push things like we do here and use UOAs for comfort like we do here, go the 10k with the OE.

If you are buying SSO, ASL, or ASM for that short of an OCI then it's a waste of money. It's better to take the money saved and buy more Amsoil transmission fluid and change it more often.

If you insist on using SSO, ASL, or ASM and would be willing to extend the OCI to justify it, then by all means.

Ok, my car has the Mobil 1 5000 in it with a M1-101 oil filter that I'm going to run for a few thousand miles then switch to the Amsoil XL oil and run about 10k mile oil changes. Thanks for the advise everybody.

Good Luck!! and welcome!! dont know that i would pay up for the m1 filter for short ocis on mobil clean, nor do i think id pay up for amsoil on that car, maybe 2 or 3,3k ocis on the mobil clean oil and a filter/cheaper of your choice/ purolator whatever, then switch to M1 and do 8-10 k ocis withe m1 filter? just a cost cutting alternative, note i just noticed you said you did get the m1 filter, might take the oci up to 4,500-5k

I'm late to the party, but don't expect any off the shelf oil to do any noticeable cleaning. In the future if anyone wanted to still give it a shot, your best bet would probably be with an HDEO like rotella.

hows that not off the shelf oil? in my opinion hdeos have their place, and its not in a gas engines w cats, mobil clean cleans just fine, another idea would be to pour a half gallon of k1 in the engine and let it idle til warm, and mobil clean will do the trick, always has for me

They're decent enough point A-to-B cars that are cheap, relatively reliable, and easy to fix. There's nothing wrong with that. If you really want to use Amsoil, fine. It's not a "waste of money" if you do an extended drain interval.

But I had good luck with SOPUS products and Mobil 1 HM oils in that engine, especially Pennzoil Platinum which can be had inexpensively on sale...

One thing on those cars that is an absolute POS is the plastic seat belt retentioner on the side of the seat. I got hit in the rear quarter panel and my head snapped back gashing open--requiring a six-staple closure...

Yeah especially since I bought it for 50% of wholesale book. I work at a dealer and bought the car off of them for what they purchased it for so it's a win win.
