2000 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 4x4. Replaced passenger side inside tie rod and idler arm. Does replacing these parts necessitate an alignment? Please advise. Thanks!
I haven’t picked it up from my mechanic yet. Hopefully tomorrow!I've had that repair done twice on two different vehicles in my life, OP. Both times the mechanics said they 'got it as close as they could' but I needed to take the vehicles to an alignment shop to get it perfect. Both times they did a great job getting it close, because while it wasn't perfect, both vehicles drove very well, and didn't mess up the tires in any way over the time it took me to get an alignment done. And that was a while.
How does yours drive OP, anything weird at highway speeds? You might be able to take your time getting the alignment unless of course there's something I don't know that's specific to Silverados.
I'd say drive it over the next week and see what you think. I'm not disputing others' advice on here, no doubt best to get an alignment. But if you put it off but keep an eye on things you're not gonna suddenly have terrible tire wear even if the alignment is off a bit. Both vehicles I had this done on drove fine afterward before their eventual alignment (2 years later, lol), with no extra tire wear at all. Helps to have a good shop doing the work of course.I haven’t picked it up from my mechanic yet. Hopefully tomorrow!
