Hi,
I just did and engine coolant drain and refill last weekend and I wonder if I did something wrong. Basically I can see white "solids" or "ghost" in the coolant bottle I prepared. Here is what I did:
- I purchased engine coolant (ethylen glycol based)
- I mixed it 50/50 with distilled water (de-mineralized water)
- To prepare the mix I use an old bottle that containes windscreen washer coolant but I rinsed it throughly with plain water before using it.
Now I can see that white ghost in the coolant mix in the bottle. I already poured the mix in the cooling system and I can also see some white deposits in the coolant reservoir but on the top of the liquid as when you have foaming and foam creates a kind of deposit before the level go down slightly when it cools down. This brings me to the other thing: it seems that the coolant mix foams more than what I thought.
So has anyone an idea on what could be that "ghost" in the coolant mix? Is it possible that a very very tiny amount of windscreen coolant left in the bottle may have caused this (and increased the foaming of the coolant since windscreen washer flui uses tensioactive substances)?
I've driven about 200km with this mix and engine temp is OK. Tonight I have tried to drain a tiny amount from the bottom of the radiator to see if any solid would come out but the liquid appears clear. I'm slightly worried about what could have caused this. I also tried to filter some coolant from the bottle (with the white ghost) and I could only get a few "solids" in the filter but a lot less than what I thought compared to how that white ghost looks like...
Hope this is understandable, I'm not very good in english and I also don't really know how to start this topic coz this problem is so confusing. If anyone has an idea please let me know. Thanks!
