Do I have a beef with UPS over the amount of this charge?

We have a local hardware store that started providing UPS services but they definitely mark it up, I've used them once or twice but that's it, mostly it's dropping off a package that already has a label and from what I've heard at the beginning they tried charging for that but UPS says no you cannot do that. If I ship it's either USPS or FedEx which I do hate but is convenient but they've gotten extremely outrageous with their rates.

I’m not sure what over the counter rates are but I’ve seen people at the UPS store pay $48 for a small pkg.

UPS has (full) "retail" rates. This is what anyone off the street that walks into a UPS store or UPS center's counter pays. Now, at a UPS store or random retail store that "ships" for people, either could mark it up however they want. They don't need to though 'cause UPS will give the store discounted rates. With the retail rate, the store can tell the customer "you can look up the rates yourself" and they'll match the retail rate.

I have north of 5000 packages sent with Pirate Ship and they are by far better than my old company.

Yes, they have a few glitches with foreign shipping when you cut and paste addresses and
Canada seems to be the one they struggle with the most.

I test them once in a while by adding weight to the parcel and they are extremely accurate and fair.

I got this refund today on a test package

The shipping carrier has notified us that the package they transported was different than what you entered when purchasing the shipping label:

#####################- removed
Weight changed from 15 oz to 11.36 oz
+$1.50 Refund

By starting this thread you've already put more time into it than I would've. At this point, you're working @ about eight cents an hour.

UPS have a nasty habit of under-quoting and then charging a catch up amount after the package has been delivered. Fedex is the same.

I don't trust them. USPS on the other hand is decent.

My experience is of course at work where UPS does not lose. They go by dimensional weight and at a high density. If I ship a box of feathers it’s really overcharged. If the package has bricks or books it then goes to actual weight. This has been for at least 7 years. My .02

With UPS $43 is worth challenging!

I use and love Pirate Ship really no negatives. Minor is on me that being it’s the rare instance I keep a card on file to replenish funds.

UPS hit me with $43 through Pirate. Right off the card. Said a 6 pound box weighed 30 pounds, different dimensions, etc fantasy mistaken world

Easy to challenge through pirate ship a day or two later money back
