Thanks for everyones tips. I just had to blow 80 bucks on a stupid puller because I couldn't get the harmonic balancer off. Boo Hoo. More pics in my favourite section on the website REPAIRS/MAINTENANCE soon.

I want you guys to see the insides of the valve covers as well as the sloppy spray on the insides of the timing belt cover. As well I can see oozing down near the oil pump. I guess my oil loss may have not been all burning oil afterall. Maybe all the seals were going.

The light gold colored areas would be normal varnish. The dark gritty areas are not normal.

Are we gonna get to see the pistons or oil pan/bearings areas?

I would take everything possible apart and put it in a xylene/acetone (paint thinner) bath for 3 - 24 hour rotations then carefully drain everything out and refill with synthetic oil and run over 5K OCI or dino and 3K OCI. Simple.

For sure an engine on synthetic oil would have less "buildup".

USA made vehicles have some bullet proof engines in vehicles right now,but you never hear anything about those.

Sure thing Zzman. You'll see all the parts as I'm doing the full teardown, but i'm stuck right now on the intake manifold separating it from the heads. One of the studs is seized and is preventing it from lifting out, so I needed to order a carbide burr to grind it off, then i'll have to drill into the hole a bit maybe.

Also I got stuck using a cut off wheel to cut the head off another one of the hex socket cap screws holding the intake manifold down also.

Linuz, is that 1 part Xylene, 1 part Acetone?

I have Laquer Thinner in stock but this stuff is quite expensive. I've been spending way too much on chemicals lately. Is Kerosene usable as an inital step? It seems cheaper.

I would put the Vulcan 3.0, Duratec 3.0 and the 2V Modular up against a VQ for longevity anyday.

Nissan's best engine was the old Z24 in the Harbody, IMO. Pretty decent power for its time and [censored] hard to kill. I prefer it to the 22R.
