Apple
is developing a high-end version of the Mac mini that has a revamped design, according to Bloomberg. The updated Mac mini will feature a faster M1X chip, and it will replace the current Intel Mac mini.
Apple is expected to release this new version of the Mac mini "in the next several months," which is vague enough that it could mean either a late 2021 or early 2022 launch. Given that Apple plans to release a new MacBook Pro with an M1X chip this fall, we could also see the new Mac mini debut in the same time frame.
Bloomberg says the new Mac mini will include an improved version of the M1 chip with a 10-core CPU that has eight high-performance cores and two energy-efficient cores, plus 16-core or 32-core GPU options. The Apple silicon chip will support up to 64GB RAM.
The New Mac mini will be equipped with more ports, featuring four Thunderbolt ports rather than the two that are available on the current Mac mini.
Prosser says that the upcoming Mac mini will continue to feature four Thunderbolt ports, two USB-A ports, an Ethernet port, and an HDMI port, along with the same magnetic power port used for the 24-inch iMac.
