Do All Motorcraft Oil Filters *Create* Debris?

Who is making the new generation of Motorcrafts that were posted on here recently?
They look to be Champion Labs type design. The FL500-S is being replaced by an eCore with fiber end cap design.

Not trying to get too far off topic but I see “eCore” pop up here lots, what is it?
It's the black nylon center cage shown below. I think Champion Labs came out with it first and called it "eCore" back then.

We've seen excessive glue (& FL820S media failures) before from the Mann/Purolator made MCs, but never anything like this. I wouldn't be surprised if PART of the reason Ford is moving MC from Mann is Mann's apparent inability to supply sufficient filters, as multiple NAPA sources have stated (in another thread, one of my NAPAs in Alexandria, KY being one of them).

I don't think you "should" do anything....

......but a man who see the evidence that shows a fault - -- and then chooses the faulty product anyway.....

perhaps should reconsider his thought processes when making decisions.

Jus' sayin'

What evidence? I've never said MC filters are the best.. Only I've never had a bad one in the nearly one million miles I've used them.

Apparently you're not using the FL820S ... that's the Motorcraft that seems to tear media more than any other.

True, as I have listed in my post signature. If I needed the 820 then I'm sure I would go with something different.

A bit late to the party here...Notice there's no visual on the top of the canister - no serial/date of manufacture...Is it an authentic made in 'Murica Motorcraft or a inexpensive copy from China?

I recently purchased 2 from a local Meijer - manufacture date of April 19th 2023.

The video never shows the dome end of the filter where the date code would be. It looks authentic to me.

If I cut open a filter and saw all that loose glue debris inside, I'd be a bit leery of ever using them again. If any of that went through the bypass valve it wouldn't be a good thing for the oiling system. Could clog VVT screens, or other small oiling passages.

I recently took off a 910S that had just 3700 miles on it. The filter looked good overall with one exception. It had a small section of the end cap which had no adhesive holding about four filter pleats to the end cap. See the pics. So there was a path around the filter media that oil could (and did, my guess) pass unfiltered. Longer service may have resulted in a tear in the media. There were no chunks of glue loose in the can and no flecks of glue in the can. For this failure and other reported failures, I won't use these filters again. Sad, because I like the design. I just can't trust the build quality any longer.

May I ask what's the manufacturing date?

I seem to recall there were some bad Purolator filters about 1 or 2 years ago - maybe related?

I removed our last Motorcraft filter from my son's 4Runner today. (I had vowed to use no more of them -- ML910S or ML400S) There's been bad press on the Motorcraft filters in this thread; some of it from me. So I want to post these pics to show that this ML400S did a good job and it had no evident problem observed when I opened it up today. The potting was complete on both ends of the media. No dirt / debri from disintegrating potting adhesive found in the can. Media and ADBV were intact.

Look closely inside any oil filter that glues the end cap to the media. So many including all the brands including Asian, can have glue partially or fully covering the louvers or holes with ready to break off little pieces. Or inside the center splashed somewhere ready to travel.
