I haven't kept to date on mowers, but maybe 15 years ago, Dixon mowers were the bee's knees. I have no reason to not believe otherwise today.

I"m sure it will be extremely durable and serviceable for whatever you plan on using it for. Haven't mowed with one in years to be able to compare how smooth the deck cuts though.

I have a 1997 Dixon 5424. I had a problem with the single cylinder B&S Intek and Dixon replaced it with a 19 hp Intek twin. They only asked that I pony up $100 for an upgraded PTO clutch. Absolutely no other issues. I doubt that I'll ever sell it.

That does looks like some nice fab work on that mower. Nice big wide front caster wheels. Heavy deck, etc. I assume this machine used integrated drives? Probably Hydrogear ZT3100 or 3400's? They're nice, but not super HD like separate pump and motor drives like they used to use.

I had a Cub Z-Force with a fabricated 44" deck and Hydrogear ZT2800s. I didn't like the foot pedal deck height adjustment because it would bounce to another selection on rough terrain.

Well we picked up this mower today. I know it has a pump for each back tire and each has its own fluid can. Its very heavy duty mower deck and mower. It has the 25 Kohler Engine and 52" cut. The only thing I don't like is the front tires don't pivot like the Kubotas do. The control arms for the speed and turning are very sensitive to. It beats the Poulan Pro all to heck we had for 10yrs thats for sure.

Not sure I follow ya on how the front wheels don't pivot like a Kubota.

FWIW, Just did a quick google of this model. It's actually a Husqvarna Group prodcut and it's got HydroGear ZT3100 integrated drives. Most, if not all of the high-end residential units have gone this route, starting about 4yrs ago. These drives are fully serviceable, with each having it's own little spin-on oil filter.

Having owned a ZTR, I didn't like lap-bar control near as much as I thought I would. In fact, I hated it. My arms/hands would go numb, and try to swat that bug biting you in the face? HANG ON.. WHEEEEEE!

I have two ZTR mowers; the Dixon 5424(42" deck) and a Cub Cadet Commercial Enforcer(54" deck). No way would I go back to a garden tractor or -shudder- a walk behind mower. I have over 2.5 acres of lightly wooded land and anything I can't cut with one ZTR or the other gets hit with a heavy duty herbicide. I can cut everything in less than 90 minutes. Yard work is a torment all unto itself, and anything that shortens the time I spend mowing is a blessing...

Yep, no doubt they're the way to reduce your mowing time, depending on what you have to mow. When I owned my ZTR, I had 2 acres to mow. None of it really conducive to a ZTR (hilly), which was totally my bad.
