Has anybody had to dispute shipping charges with FedEx and how did it turn out? shipped a few items recently and when I saw the bill on my cc statement I almost fell out of my chair. $18 to send a 1lb package from PA to Texas with ground service or better yet $17.50 to send a 4oz package from PA to NC ? I hit the dispute button on my bill but thinking maybe I should file a dispute with my CC company also ? have been using ground for a few years and never sen this happen. at these price points I will just throw everything out instead of selling it. have been shipping items for here an Ebay for years and never seen anything like this. I weigh my packages before they are shipped an if anything over estimate the weight by a few ounces. do they have a glitch in their system.

They tell you what the shipping cost is before you pay. How do you plan to dispute that? I'm not sure I understand.

I have used FedEx for years and they never charged me $17+ to send a 4oz package from PA to NC. when I set up the shipping their was no price quote ( did it online though my account and gets billed to my CC ) why would anybody spend that much to ship low weigh packages via ground? I sure would not have agreed to those prices.

Shipping for a regular consumer by UPS or FEDEX is extreme. Their prices can be competitive when a corporate entity with an account (and different rate structure) uses them. Otherwise, USPS, which has also gone up quite a bit, is the far better option.

Still, whats the angle? Fraud? I agree that it sounds super high, but if they are actually charging for shipping and handling, not sure how much recourse youll have. Who determines what is a "fair" price?

As with many goods/services, there's alot of factors that go into a price, for shipping a package weight is only one part.

ship priority mail

I just had a router I had to send back to newegg fedex wanted 19$

with newegg's "dicount label" it was 16.xx

unfortuneately it didnt fit in a prepaid usps box so it cost me 12.73 to send it ohio-CA
box was 10"x8"x6" weighed 2lb or less

just plugged in the estimated shipping cost for the same item at 1 lb and it came out to less that half of what FedEx charged me. I knew their was a pricing error.

The item I sent could have fit in a regular envelope and put a stamp on it , so how can FedEx justify charging somebody over $17 ? the best part is I just put the same data in their sipping quote at 1 1b and they want less than half of what they charged me , how it that not price gouging ?

UPS and FedEX also put a hefty surcharge on for residential addresses.

I also have found USPS to be the most competitively priced for personal shipping, especially when shipping to residential addresses.

It's not cheap to ship, I am still amazed it is less than $0.50 to mail a first class letter.

So, you wrote them a blank "check" by not getting a quote first, & now you're upset that they cashed said "check"? I have not a clue why you would be upset with them rather than with yourself.

That's exactly how I feel. It's one thing if your receipt says $12 and suddenly the CC statement says $17.

The CC company is going to tell you to pound sand. If you think FedEx is overpriced, use someone else.

If I had to guess, when you ship something that didn't have a predetermined price quoted (what caused that is another question) fedex may have defaulted to a shipping option or service at a higher price level. I don't have a fedex account, but maybe that's a preference or setting in your account.

Contrary to popular belief UPS & FedEx rarely concern themselves with actual weight.

Dimensional weight is more important. This is what I do everyday for a living currently.

It is not about how heavy the product is but how much space it will take up on the truck/plane etc. Weight is only a safety issue for personal & equipment. The real billing is done on dimensions.

If you did not get a quote then it is your own fault and you have no recourse. Regular consumer rates are extremely high compared to what big corporate accounts get. That is why a 4 oz package cost so much. It has nothing to do with the weight of it.

Case in point:

FedEx LTL has us capped at $225 per pallet regardless of weight or dimensions from the east coast till the mason-dixon. This is for residential w/ liftgate & threshold delivery. Without those it is like $75

The real cost can be over $1000 for just one pallet. So think about that FedEx is only charging me $225 for no less than 20 people involved in the shipping process from terminal-terminal, truck drivers, delivery scheduling, etc...

I'd call that a deal but we also do this no less than 30-50 times a month so they are making money.

Edit: Give me the exact zip codes and I can see what we would have got charged on the corporate side.

Good point, thermo. The big corporate rates are hilariously cheap compared to what you pay on the website as a consumer. Most companies can ship stuff two-day for almost the exact same rate as ground.

This. Consider it a learning experience and make sure to get a quote next time.

Our Amazon account which gets billed to them is exactly like that.

The one package I saw weighed about 15 lbs. and was heading to CA from PA 2nd day air.

Their cost $13...your cost...maybe $100 lol

We actually cheat the system with UPS. I ship the express envelopes ground because it will take a day regardless to get to our office in NY. Technically via our agreement I am only suppose to use next day. They never seem to mind however if one gets lost though it will obviously be our own fault.

1 lb envelope shipped ground $6, shipped the right way about $50.
