As a Discover cardholder since the late 1980's I was disappointed to hear that Discover Card no longer sends E bills to your online checking account. This seems like a step backwards now in convenience. Now you will get a notification in email and you will then need to pull up your itemized bill. If you have opted out of a mailed bill you must opt in. This is the result of Capital One has acquired them. Does Capital one not all E bills to checking accounts?

I have Discover as well, but I'm scratching my head trying to understand what an "E-bill" is, and it linked to your checking account?

This must be a feature I don't use, I guess.

???

Do you still pay your monthly bills the old fashioned way using checks and stamps?

Fwiw, agree that very likely it has to do with Discover Card being acquired by Cap One. Another example of consolidation of competitive businesses by acquisition, 'generally' not a good thing for the customer/consumer.

That said, I too am a long time DC holder but have never used the ebill feature so doesn't affect me. I pay bills either by CC payment/draft (where no transaction fee involved) or draft of my checking account.

E Bill is when I sign into my checking account the bill is sent as an attachment to the Discover account in the Bill pay section of my checking account. I can sign into my checking account pull up all my bills and review the statement for any inaccuracies. I then can pay all my bills by only signing into my checking account. Its a convenience thing really.

Crapital 1 earned their way out of my wallet several years ago.

When they bought Discover, that account was also closed.

I hope they keep the American based customer service agents. It was nice when I had to dispute a crazy charge on my Discover card after gofundme charged my card $6k instead of $60. Oops. Still don't know how Discover let that charge go through.

CS was always very good. With C1 I bet it will be eventually outsourced overseas.

Interesting. I never knew anything like this existed. I get paper statements for everything (on purpose)
I pay everything electronically from our checking account, gosh for over a decade or more. Exception is my Electric Utility I have post to a Mastercard account.

That's pretty much what I do. I either get an e-mail or paper statement, depending on the organization.

Then, I log into Discover and pay the bills since I have already manually added the "Payees". When I recently called Discover to ask about the feature the OP is describing, Discover told me that Corporate Big Kahuna's made the decision to drop this feature because it wasn't that popular.

That "sending e bill to checking account" is a method some merchant use to ask for payment without doing their own online payment website. I had to do this with one of my former HOA payment if I want to pay online automatically. This mechanism the checking account's bank is responsible for paying on time instead of the merchant responsible for "pulling" money out of the checking account on time.

These days most people would just sign onto the merchant's site and let them charge their bank's checking account instead.

I just got my big pile of paper from Capital one/Discover saying I don’t need to change anything yet, but here are new terms and conditions for everything.

I’m told accounts in good standing are sometimes canceled for not being profitable enough.

See if I am back to cash for a while in a few months because of my former 850 credit score

It’s a big nothing to pay your bills every month.
Log into your online checking account and send payments to your creditors.

Best part is once you enter the creditors billing information you just fill in the dollar amount every month to pay it. As far as a fixed car payment or a fixed house payment, you have the payment automatically go out every month.
In this way, you are in control.
Seems silly to allow companies to take money from your account.

I don’t get it and for the life of me don’t understand making such a simple procedure complicated.

For those looking for a good online checking account I would recommend Alliant Credit Union.
It’s a one time charge of five dollars or something to become part of the credit union. I believe it’s the largest in the United States.
Here is a cool part, if you ever do miss a Bill that you have been paying through the account frequently. They MAY send out a reminder that you typically make a payment to XX company this time a month and you have not done so.
