Discount Tire is Awesome!

A few months ago I bought a used 2005 F-150, and it came with almost new Hancooks on it. I took it in for a tire rotation to DT, and it was FREE! Not only was it free, but the service was excellent. I knew they repaired flats for free, and would rotate tires for free if you bought them there, but had no idea they would also rotate tires not purchased from them for no charge!

They even looked at my brakes for me, and I will need rear pads shortly.

I have been using them for my company fleet vehicles, as it is the only place I can take the work trucks that don't come back with a laundry list of items not needed.

I totally agree. I've been buying tires from these guys for years and have nothing but good things to say about them.

Yes I agree. Some pointers on them

1) Do some online research on prices and take the printout to them. They will match the price (but also increase the install and delivery costs)
2) Think carefully about buying their extended warranty. It runs out quite quickly and you are already covered for some of the things it covers you for.
3) Do find a good one as then the price and service and quality come together. I have several near me and luckily the nearest one is top notch.
4) Check out Discount Tire Direct. Same company but they operate like Tire Rack. I only discovered them afterwards and what I found was that as a seperate company they don't have to charge you tax in your state. So you could conceivably buy from them with no tax and have it shipped to your America's tire for installation. This could actually save you money over going into the store and getting a price match on the best price you find on the internet.

They definitely want your business so they offer free rotation and repair to anyone (which is kind of annoying as the implication is that the install price includes these for customers).

I had the option of getting tires shipped to my Lexus dealer and for him to install them for $50, which would have worked out cheaper than the best price I could get at America's Tire. But I chose to go to American's Tire for everything as I heard they would put things right if everything was done through them. In other words if your tires needed to be returned under warranty, then you would be responsible for returning them if you bought them direct (so you would need a spare set of tires), whereas if you did everything through them, they would take care of everything.

In any case, I am about to test the customer service shortly. I had my tires aligned by a reputable shop and the car still drifts. They looked at it again and said it's definitely aligned correctly so must be the tires. So I'm back to America's Tire to see what they can do about it.

Will most likely let you all know what transpires.

Thanks. I also heard of roadforce balancing or alignment? I think this is where they adjust everything while there is actual pressure on the tires as if it is being driven.

I'm going to get a rotation done and test drive the car. If it is still there then I'll go back to them. I also saw a TSB that talked about the issue and how to adjust for it.

I was hoping that the dealer alternative garage that I've started using would be my one stop shop for everything, but it seems tires are difficult to do right.

I recently purchased new Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S tires from Discount Tire Direct to replace other 9 year old Pilot's I bought from Sears. They still had tread but had gotten hard, didn't grip that well but were not cracked anywhere on the tire. We were taking a 3,000++ mile vaction to Florida from NJ. Discount's service was great. Got the tires within a week. They called me to advise of the shipping info and said I really should have ordered their metal valve stems. I was going to get new plastic ones from the installer but at no charge they included them, a $15 value I believe. My local tire store charged about $115 with 7% tax to dismount and remount & balance the 4 new tires. They would have charged half that if I bought tires through them. I still saved a huge "chung of change" rather than buying local. Tire stores around here are high priced for "out the door" pricing. They don't provide the free balancing, tire repair or other goodies some of you get.

I've used TireRack previously and was satisfied. But I'm more satisfied with Discount Tire Direct. They went the extra mile in customer service and were less expensive this time around.

Been lots of posts here including mine, with very similar thoughts and experience.

I would have a very difficult time purchasing tires elsewhere since dicover DT. Beat a Treadepot price that happened to include free shipping at the time. Used a Wally install price to come up with the figure DT beat.

Yes, they will rotate tires not purchased there (gratis), as my post above shows. I also take a flashlight and they have no issues with me checking my own brake pads with the wheels off. They will charge if you want a balance on tires not purchased there, only reasonable.

Need to do your homework though before purchase. Best to do research at TR, Treadepot, etc. and their website(s) DT and DTD. Get your price quotes lined up before you walk in the door, and don't count on quotes over the phone. When ready to purchase, go to the DT store last to talk final price.

As I've said many times, best service after the sale I've experienced.

Also an advantage to living in LV rather than your former residence where there is no DT.

fyi, the DT's in my area offer roadforce balance for an extra charge over the standard spin balance.

No complaints with DTC as a business... nor the products obtained there. Due to a slight change in residency though, I have since been using Kanrock Tire with relatively equal satisfaction here in Mich.

The only time I had a problem was when a tech working on my left-rear couldn't keep his eyes on his work, but rather on an un-skirted female leg that had emerged from the car next to me while scrounging around in her glove compartment. I guess he couldn't ease off the air wrench as I eventually ended up with a warped wheel bearing. Can't win 'em all I guess!

Anyway I was kept in good stead with them in the way they set me up with certificates as well as siping - which I eventually gave up on. But they are reputable in my book.

In 2002 I bought a 98 Camry from my mother that had 10,000 miles on it. The tires were out of round, probably due to sitting for long periods of time. I went to Discount Tire to buy new tires. They spent over an hour testing the tires to determine whether they needed replacing. At the end of that time, they put my tires back on, rebalanced them and said that I owed them nothing. Needless to say, I've never bought tires anywhere else since. My experiences have been consistent since that initial visit. They always have competitive prices, run good sales and rotate and balance without a long wait. They found a very reasonably price volvo rim when I wanted a full service sparee for my new S60. Like I said, I never go anywhere else.

They also have a Bing Cashback special that goes through 7/31 that will get you 10% cash back on anything you buy from DTD-I'm getting around $45 back for the 4 Yokohama Geolandars I just bought from them!
