I've been using a kit like this for about 15 years now. I prefer it to the C-clamp method. For me, the C-clamp was always a hassle. Trying to find the ideal spot on the back of the caliper so the clamp didn't slip off. Constantly fighting with the hose getting in the way of the C-clamp. So I like the kit.

The downside to the kit is it really doesn't work on dual and 4 cylinder calipers. So now you are back to a C-clamp, or the pry bar method (No better way to mess up a good screwdriver than to use it as a pry bar). I'm considering getting one of these.

It would be effective for multiple cylinder brakes, and it seems that it would be simpler to use.

So for these types of tools that compress the piston which is bettrr, one that ratchets or one where you squeeze the handle like this one.

"Better" is up to each person to decide. I will say that the ratchet type is probably a bit more awkward because you need one hand to hold the caliper and with your second hand, you have to ratchet and push (slightly) at the same time. With trigger-gun style, you could possibly do it one-handed.

Or this one which will also do 4 piston brakes. A little pricey, though.
