It's actually highly recommended on maxima.org with tests to back it up.

Link please.

From what I've seen, most org "experts" just repeat XOM's marketing drivel. These are the guys that usually dump the M1 after only 3K-5K miles and/or have such bad blowby that the makeup oil is nearly 50%.

i thought most orgers in the know got their info from here

obviously i try to change the mentally of the short oci syn users.

well since M1 is out, and GC is scarce...
suggestions for SYN? i don't have enough miles for amsoil...

guess i'll look at the uoa of PP if nothing else is recommended.
thanks

I used Havoline 5w30 (dino) exclusively in my VQ '05 Altima until 30,000 miles, then made the switch to Schaeffer's 5w30 (synthetic blend). The longest I ever ran the Hav was the Nissan-recommended 3750 miles - I had a UOA done with a Dyson analysis, and Terry was happy that I had changed it at that time, as the oil had sheared quite a bit and had a TBN of 2.0.

I did a another UOA after the second OCI with Schaeffer's (same driving style/conditions), and still had a TBN of 2.5 after 4500 miles. Wear results were slightly better, also.

So, from personal experience, stick with the recommended severe-service OCI while using the dino.

Enjoy your car!
