Dino 10w-40

Just wondering do many people run 10w-40 anymore? I recall it was big at one time

Not many. It was popular in the 1970's and 1980's.

Known for sludging badly at one point, due to the amount of VII's needed to make the spread with group I base oils. Not an issue anymore, modern 10W-40's are as clean-running as any other grade.

Think it lost favor because of additives needed to stretch the grade. This lead to sludging.

I still run it occasionally. I live in NC where the temps are mild so when i need (or want) a w40, i usually run a 15w40. I posted about this a few months ago and the running conclusion is that they are nothing to worry about due to todays improved base stocks and VII. My buddy has run 10w40 in his air cooled 660 grizzly with about 500 mile oil changes and he sold his atv with over 4k miles on it. Not saying it is the best oil for the job, but it did fine.

It lost popularity because there isn't a single car manufacturer who specs it for their vehicles anymore.

5w30 need a lot of vii too. Straight C10 8cSt PAO VI is under 140. I sometimes use 10w40 to up vis in the summer. Like in the subaru. I put 3q 5w30 MC5K and 1 qt 10w-40 MC5K works great for 5k, but the mobil does shear as time goes by.

I used it in my gf Daewoo. It burns 1 qt of oil every 1000 miles

It's what my atv calls for, but since I've found BITOG I run 15W40 for summer and 0W40 or 5W40 syn for the winter. I have an old jug that I'll use for top ups in cars or atv.

I use it in Euro cars and old trucks.

I'm using some right now in the Aero.
All three other cars have seen it, as well.
Used it religously in our old Civics.
No sludge and no other problems with 10W-40.
