What do you think of it? Dining in a food court is always seen, lots do it when working but dining in a restaurant is rare. Im unfortunately having to do it right now and once the place started getting packed i cant help but feel uncomfortable sitting here by myself.

Same. My job is nearly 100% travel so I eat by myself regularly.

It doesn't bother me unless it is crowed. I get nervous for a lack of a better word around a lot of people. Always have. I try to hit places that are not that busy for that reason.

Well unfortunately they stuck me right in the middle by the kitchen door so everyone can see me. I hope i dont look like a loser here bY myself while everyone is with ppl

I don't have a problem with it (like the rest, I do it when I travel for work). 99% of people won't notice you anyway, and even if they do, who cares?

I live alone and eat out about once a week at a restaurant by myself. I used to get uncomfortable but, lost that foolishness years ago. If they try to seat me where I prefer not, I ask for a different spot. Ed

Not to dogpile but to echo advice you've been given in other threads.. Obviously easier said than done (what isn't?) but you really would be better off if you could manage not to care so much what other people might think of you.

Don't worry so much about what they're thinking of you. (Easier said than done I'm sure!!)

This is always something I did with someone else so I would probably feel a little awkward too. But it's not like you're eating scraps off their plates.

Carnoobie-

Look at this way;
25% of the people in the restaurant have bad breath
20% Have at least 1 form of herpes
15% have irritable bowel syndrome
9% regularly use illegal drugs

Which one do you want to sit with?

I'd go for group #4, as their characterization has nothing to do with a dining experience. (Unless they're dope smokers; in which case you'd better be ready for nachos!)

I can't really eat by myself at a restaurant. Sometimes I can but I'm not sure why it is but I always lose my appetite. If the tv is on or the music is playing usually i'm ok but if i'm just listening to others talk then I can't do it. I eat all the time with friends and don't really have a problem but if i'm alone I can have a sudden nauseous feeling so you're not the only one with this problem.

I travel a lot so I do this often. Im not afraid to go to fancy places or crowded ones if it is where I want to go and what I have an appetite for.

My friend the iphone and blackberry keep me occupied if nothing else. Those, plus people watching, do just fine.

Exactly.

I have no idea why there is such a stigma attached to doing things alone. What's wrong with having a meal by yourself? Who cares? It doesn't mean anything at all, unless you're one of those people who looks down on other people doing things by themselves.

Hey, before I was married, I often went to movies by myself, something that REALLY bothers some people. Oh, the humanity!

Why? If I go to eat by myself, chances are good that I really don't want to talk to anyone beyond the wait staff.

Besides, bar seats are uncomfortable. Bars are for drinking, tables are for eating!
