Never used these. My older reciever has them and so does my Vizio HD flatscreen. Should I use these instead of the RCA jacks for audio?... I'm just trying to pipe some music out to the shop, currently I'm just using rca jacks and its fine. Does it help with quality? I was just curious. thanks

For listening to 2-channel music in the shop, I'd say it doesn't matter. Those digital connections are mainly needed for 5.1/7.1 Dolby Digital/DTS audio when watching movies.

TOSlink (optical) is effectively immune to interference. If you have hissing or static problems, use it. Even if you don't, use it.

Regarding the audio output from a TV, a puny source, I doubt it matters that much at all. Like Pete said, if it's just for music, you'll not notice any difference in quality.
