I've given the wife and kids a couple of 6 megapixel Sonys in the last year, they seem to work well and generate better pictures than a couple year old 4 megapixel Sony. The display broke on the older one, where bigger displays just seem like just bigger targets. In any case digital cameras seem to be much more fragile than 'regular cameras', as we have a 10 yr ? old film P&S that works fine, I have a couple of Nikons that are almost 20 years old, I have my dad's Canon SLR that is probably 30 years old, and my son has a screw mount SLR that we picked up at a garage sale that is probably 40 ? years old; all work fine.
Processing labs are almost gone, but I still prefer shooting Kodachrome slides. They'll last about 200 years with dark storage, and evidently a pro scanner needs about 90 to 180 mbyte files to properly encode a Kodachrome; please don't take my Kodachrome away.
