different weight needed for nitrous??

hey whats up everybody...i was just wondering if anyone thinks i need to use a different weight for spraying nitrous..this is on my 99 Z28 with a cam, and i'll be spraying either a 75 or a 100 shot. I use Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 in it right now and i'm assuming i dont need to change anything but i just want to hear what some of you guys think.
 
Should be good to go, you can try Pennzoil Platinum 5w-40 if you can find it, if not I wouldn't worry about using the 5w30. Since you will only be adding 75-100 HP at a time and 11-12 seconds max I think you will be fine. Now if you got a blower and had that extra power at all times I would step up a grade.
 
You're making at least 150hp over stock and probably even more torque. I would step up the weight. Think about it this way, you're not going hurt anything by stepping up the weight but you might hurt something if you don't. I know thin oil is the "cool" thing to do on here but in real life in a 450+hp car, and I'm assuming you're not too concerned about the 1hp and .001mpg decrease, I would go a step thicker.

The beauty of it is you can REALLY increase your torque if you squeeze it at 1,500rpm...
 
Since using nitrous will put more stress on the crank, and the cam (I'm assuming hi-lift) will put more stress on the valvetrain, I would step up to a 15w40 such as Delo 400. Since your in Orlando, you have no cold start issues.
 
One thing to consider is which type of kit - wet or dry, or the kits that spray through the MAF sensor with no additional fuel enhancement. A wet kit that's untuned will potentially dump a shattass of additional fuel through the motor (much safer than not enough fuel!) which will dilute the oil and thin it out.

I'd go thicker for sure, like a 5w-40 perhaps. Rotella 5w-40 would be great.

I was under the impression that flow was what provided lubrication.

Since I haven't seen anything posted about what pressure his relief valve is, or at what RPM his engine builds that pressure, how can it just automatically be a better idea to run a thicker oil?

Hey man, no ive never been on pinks haha..sorry i forgot to mention that i no longer live in orlando, i moved back to north carolina a few months ago...My motor is all stock internally besides the cam, it has comp. valve springs, hardened pushrods, and titanium retainers..it has 128K miles on it as well. The nitrous is gonna be a wet shot, and i'll be running a wideband O2 sensor to monitor air fuel ratio. I really appreciate all the responses so far..

Piston rings/cylinder walls are not pressure lubricated and will see higher pressures and temps with nitrous. Main and rod bearings while pressure lubed will still have more protection with a thicker oil especially in the event that something goes wrong like fuel dilution or detonation.
