I thought I'd write a post on the differences between the different hid bulbs (All oem, too many variations on knock-off's). If it becomes popular enough maybe the mods can sticky it. First off ALL OEM HID bulbs are either produced by Osram-Sylvania, Philips, and GE (Rare but becoming more popular). There may be one or two other less well known oem bulb supplers but the main three I have listed above. All projector based hid bulbs are Either D1S, D2S, or now D4S. D1S has the igniter, built into the base making it much more bulky. D2S have the igniter mounted separately. Now For the oddball if you will. D4S bulbs, and ballasts are standard on (I think) all model year 2008, and later Cadillacs (Don't quote me). D4S bulbs, and ballasts are not compatible with Previous D1S or D2S bulbs, as the wattage, voltage are different. The biggest difference are that they are mercury free.

Thanks, I was wondering what the deal is with the "new" D4S bulbs. The first I heard of them was a few weeks ago. What is the output compared with the D1/D2 bulbs?

I know you listed only the "projector based" bulbs; in addition to those, the D2R bulbs are for OEM reflector housings, like Toyota Avalon/Sienna, older Acura TL, etc.

The luminous output of the newer D4s Bulbs are 3800 lumens comapred to 3200 lumens of the D2S bulbs.
