Difference between AMSOILS SYN ATF?

Since Nissan's transmission "Shear oil" because of (VI)improvers, my questions is.

Wouldn't Amsoil Torque Drive ATF be a better choice for applications that require Dexron III in it, compared to Amsoil other Syn ATF?

Whats the difference between the two that I'm not understanding from their web-site?

The ATD does start with a higher vis and is specially formulated to mimic the Castrol Torque drive stuff.

I tell folks if they want a more old fashioned, higher vis synthetic DEX III then use ATD.

However, seems to me the Amsoil ATF holds up pretty well in a Nissan:

"I tell folks if they want a more old fashioned, higher vis synthetic DEX III then use ATD".

Does this mean there's an advantage? The Amsoil site mention that ATD will last six times as long. Is this compared to their new formula SYN ATF which is listed for 50,000 miles?

If you want a bit higher viscosity, yes.

Six times longer than conventional ATF is what the statement says.

So Pablo, in your opinion will Amsoil ATD be a better choice in cars that require Matic D/ Dexron III in the transmission? I know their SYN ATF is top shelf, I figured the ATD maybe better for this application.

No not necessarily a better choice. If your car calls for Dex III, AND you want a fluid a that has a bit higher 100°C vis, ATD is an acceptable substitute synthetic ATF. If you car calls for Nissan Matic D, J & K, use Amsoil ATF which provide excellent protection and appropriate friction/viscosity properties for shifting and max MPG .

Matic D is Dexron equivalent. I'd prefer a TES295 fluid over a universal.

TES295 ATF is also well filtered in its application. If you're not running quality fullflow or bypass ATF filtration, IMO, you're still stuck with normal ATF change intervals regardless of the ATF used.

If you require Dexron II/III, Mercon, MerconV, Matic D, in your AT, power steering, differential, transfer case..... I'd choose TES295 over Ams's ATF.

If you require any factory special ATF like TIV, JK matic, SPIII, ATF+4, Z1....., then the Amsoils universal is the way to go.

He is referring to ATD, which is a clone of Allison® TES-295

PART OF My mind says that UnD is correct. But I have no evidence either way.

A couple things. ATF is the Amsoil recommended fluid for the Nissan application, and it does well at it. The fluid has modern top of the line additives and base oils.

ATD is a good ATF. But Amsoil doesn’t stand behind Nissan applications. I TOTALLY agree with UnD, it will work fine, though.

So it REALLY is the customer’s choice.

So I should basically go with the product Amsoil warrenty is behind and been tested for. Yes I know it's listed on their web-site, but they listed ATD for simular applications. I'll be conservative in this choice.

Maybe I missed it - which similar apps? (other than GM/Ford) Any Nissan apps?

The Nissan application would be simular to Dexron III.

"AMSOIL Torque-Drive™ is recommended as a direct replacement for TranSynd® Synthetic ATF in heavy duty, on and off highway automatic transmissions manufactured by Allison,® General Motors,® Ford,® Voith® and ZF® or wherever the standards TES-295, C-4, Dexron® III, Mercon,® Voith G-1363 or TE-ML 14C are specified".

If you are comfortable with Dex III in your Nissan, you should be more than set up with ATD. As I stated it will work fine and protect well!
