Diff fluid containing limited slip friction modifier

Here is another example a diff fluid already containing a limited slip friction modifier. I also included a snap from the website that explains their thoughts on adding extra friction modifier.

About 3 yrs ago, I bought a gallon on sale, of PEAK 80w90 gear oil with LSD additive (non synthetic) at Pep Boys for ~$14.99

Because I have such good success, I actually prefer Mobil 1 75W90 LSD but, I had a diff leak and was pumping in the PEAK quite regularly(monthly).

I like the gear oils with the LSD additive in already.

I am sure this has been answered before , but is there any harm in using an oil with LSD additive in an non LSD diff ?

No harm at all. I have used Mobil 1 gear w/LSD additive in many non-LSD differentials.

Absolutely no harm whatsoever.

No harm, because there aren't clutches in a regular diff that need to have controlled slippage so the additive doesn't do anything.

Why don't they just add it to all gear oils then? Cost and because limited slip differentials don't account for the regular population of diff's out there.

Thank you for asking this... I just logged on specifically for this reason. I've been using Mobil 1 75w-90 gear oil with the LS additive in an open diff. Didn't know it wasn't necessarily the spec. At least I did know to use TC fluid that is friendly on the soft metals...
