Diesel Oil Recommendation

I just bought a 2015 F350 6.7 Power stroke with 197,000 miles and I need to change the oil. What weight should I use and is there a specific brand or just go with the Rotella?

I mention 15w-40 products in this thread but you can use 10w-30, 5w-40, or 15w-40 that meets Ford F1 Specification. Recommend higher grade than 10w-30 if towing heavy though. Nice truck!

Here's an AI overview:

When referring to a "Ford CK-4 6.7 Powerstroke," it means a Ford 6.7L Powerstroke diesel engine in a Super Duty truck that requires an oil meeting the API CK-4 standard, which is the recommended oil type for modern diesel engines, but Ford specifically advises against using standard CK-4 oils in their 6.7 Powerstroke engines and instead recommends their own formulated oil meeting the WSS-M2C171-F1 specification for optimal protection and performance; essentially, while CK-4 is technically suitable, Ford prefers their own blend for their diesel engines.

Great info, thank you sir!

So what is the Ford preferred oil and weight for this?

From the HotShot's Secret website:
Use motor oil meeting Ford Specification WSS-M2C171-F1. The manufacturer recommends 10W-30 for normal usage and 5W-40 for severe operations. If biodiesel fuel (B20 max) is used the use of 5W-40 or 15W-40 oil is recommended.

I already used traveller 15w-40 from tractor supply when I had a PS 6.7. Anything meeting Ford F1 spec is fine.

I used some of the mentioned oils in this thread but ended up settling on Amsoil 15w40 Signature Series.
It runs way quieter and smoother in my 160k mi swapped Duramax - probably because it's higher viscosity and beefy add pack compared to the others.

I would use 5w40 full syn. There was speculation by some engine (re)builders that 15w-40 contributed to spun bearings in the earlier scorpion motors with tighter crank journal clearances.

The Delo 5w-40 doesn't meet F1, so I'd be looking hard at T6 or Delvac Extreme.

If you can run a 15-40 oil in your particular climate, I strongly recommend the Mobil Delvac Extreme. I ran it in an 18’ Ram CTD and if I could run it in the 22’ I have now, I would not hesitate to use it. Truck just seemed smoother and quieter on the Extreme than any other 15-40 I tried in it.
