Diesel Oil Question

Had my oil changed today at the Ford Dealer. This time they used 10w30 Motorcraft diesel oil instead of 15w40 Motorcraft diesel oil. Service adviser stated it will not hurt anything. Should I be concerned?

Not unless you have excessive fuel dilution which will take it down a grade. If you tow heavy, then a 40 weight would be better. If you don't tow heavy a 30 weight will be fine.

I wouldn't run a 10w30 in a 7.3. I think they lose some HEUI oil pressure when hot. As long as it is not driven hard I'm sure the 10w30 will be fine (MC 10w30 gpIII?), but I wouldn't make a habit out of running a 30wt, my .02 anyway. I haven't seen any advantage to running a 30wt in any of 6.0's that I've worked on; used oil analysis certainly aren't impressive most times. The 30wt works better in cold weather, but the 6.0's have such a fuel dilution problem anyway it not worth it unless it's one of the lucky ones and doesn't dump fuel into the basement.

The 6.0 Powerstroke diesel engine was designed for either CI-4 10w30 or 15w40. The 10w30 should give a sliver better gas mileage, and better winter starts.
