I change the oil on 5K intervals and use the large size Mobil 1 301 filter which is the proper fit for these engines. With this filter you can replace the full four quarts without being well above the fill line.
I am fine running the dual rated oil 5W40 and will try the Mobil 1 10W30 HM this coming winter.

You're right about cool-down, but I'm sure you're turbo is water-cooled, too. Like BuickGN said, drive calmly thru your neighborhood until you get home (& when you approach work as well) & your turbo should be sufficiently cooled.
I also run a larger filter on all my Saabs. They don't add much extra oil capacity (about 8oz), but filtering should be better & dirt-holding volume is roughly doubled. I think it's a great thing to do.
If it were my turbo & I wanted to switch oils between winter/summer seasons, I'd go with 0W-40 when it gets cold instead of 10w30. (That suggestion was only if you weren't comfortable with any xW-40 dual-rated oil.) 0W-40 is also dual-rated, lowers the cold-start end for winter but keeps the hot temp end up for better turbo protection while the engine's at operating temp. Heck, it's good enough for Porsche to keep in their Cayenne turbo year-round!

LOL! It wasn't really by choice. In the middle of the holidays our '99 got totaled by an out-of-towner running a red light. No injuries, thankfully. The '02 was the only thing we could find that was anywhere near the primo condition our '99 was in.
